Ronald Ferrer Contracting Officer Request for Information # 4 If the concrete on each side of the expansion joint is not the same thickness when installing the alignment lugs, should the top or bottom align?
Government Response: It’s to be assumed the concrete on each side of the joint is the same thickness. If there are materially differing thicknesses between the sides of the expansion joints, the contractor shall notify the VA prior to proceeding with the work.
Request for Information # 5 On sheet SF130, would be possible to replace the 5.8” Hilti epoxied rods and the Simpson Titen screw anchors with through-bolts and place washer plates above the slab?
Government Response: No.
Request for Information # 6 Details F3 and F4 on sheet AE 871 shows 2’ pieces of aluminum for the joint covers. Could the contractor replace this with one-piece full height of wall?
Government Response: No.
Request for Information # 7 Detail F4 on sheet AE 871 shows the upper portion of the joint cover against the existing concrete beam. Should there be a couple inch gap between the cover and beam for movement?
Government Response: For details F3 and F4 replace nominal ¼”top and bottom joint with 1” nominal joints.
Request for Information # 8 Will leaving a gap and providing the 4” slotted hole place the anchor too close to the expansion joint?
Government Response: On detail F4, the top two machine screws shall be installed not less than 3” from edge of expansion joint. Field verify with the VA field representative prior to drilling. Also refer to sheet SB110, General Note 2a and 2b.
Request for Information # 9 General note 3 on sheet SB 110 requires anchors to be proof tested. Is this only for the alignment lugs or does it include the anchors for the rest of this project including the guardrail, water diverters, floor joint covers, and aluminum joint covers?
Government Response: Proof testing for the guardrail, water diverters and aluminum joint covers is not required. Proof test alignment lugs, fire sprinkler piping supports, plumbing piping supports, roof/floor drain anchorages, as required by Section 13 05 41 and other locations shown, noted or specified.
