About this file
This request for proposal from the Smithsonian Institution solicits proposals for the design and construction of building envelope repairs at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. Offerors are asked to provide all materials, equipment, labor, and supervision necessary to improve the building's energy performance and waterproofing through tasks such as installing new insulation and waterproofing, fabricating and installing new precast concrete wall panels to match existing panels, replacing balconies, and demolishing and rebuilding the roof. Proposals are due by August 31, 2020 and are evaluated based on experience, plans of accomplishment, key personnel, precast concrete qualifications, and price. Subcontracting goals include 23% for small businesses with subsets for small disadvantaged, veteran-owned, HUBZone, and women-owned small businesses.

refer to sheet E1 A-507, typical top panel section at parapet and precast panel. Per site walk, there is a roof edging detail located just above the panel in the field but is not shown/identified on the plans.
Please provide additional clarification and drawing for this detail.
Existing reglet set roof flashing above exterior-top-panel to be removed and not replaced. Remove/clean sealant from reglet cut in concrete and grout reglet to match existing CIP concrete. See
Addendum Detail RFI 155.
refer to sheet E1 A-507, detail D10. The self-adhered flashing membrane along the existing building concrete wall appears to terminate in the corner and does not return down towards the wept sealant joint. This leaves a section of the existing concrete unprotected. Please confirm if this was intended or if detail should be revised.
The intent is to terminate the self-adhered flashing membrane on the horizontal surface as shown in D10/E1 A-507.
Contract drawing E1 S-000, note #4 under PCC panel installation states 1/16” accuracy of installation is to be achieved reliably. This tolerance exceeds known PCI tolerances, and does not match specification section 034500.3.3.A., B, C. Please confirm the tolerances noted in specification
034500 is closer to industry tolerance and shall supersede the structural note on drawing E1 S-000, please confirm?
The intent is to terminate the self-adhered flashing membrane on the horizontal surface as shown in D10/E1 A-507.
In the event that location of the new panel anchoring installation requires the existing CIP concrete drum reinforcing steel to be cut or modified, will this be acceptable to the
Smithsonian.
It is not recommended that CIP wall reinforcing be cut. It is recommended that the installation adjustability be provided in the connection plates that attach to the drum surface.
If the CIP concrete drum reinforcing steel is not be cut or modified to allow for the new anchor bolts, will the Smithsonian provide what allowable adjustment would be acceptable.
The only adjustability to wall reinforcing that will be considered are adjustments that replace any cut reinforcing with new reinforcing with the same capacity as what was cut. Note that existing cast-in panel anchors are attached with rebar and this rebar could be cut if it can be distinguished from wall reinforcing.
