About this file
This is a technical specification document for fire-rated cables required by Amity Regional School District No. 5 in Connecticut for the Bethany Middle School Fire Pump Replacement project. The specification section (260520) details the requirements for 2-hour rated mineral insulated (MI) cable systems and metal clad (MC) cable assemblies, including supports, terminations, and testing/certification. The project requires sealed proposals submitted no later than Friday, November 14, 2025 at 1:00 P.M., with a mandatory pre-bid walk-through available by appointment only through Friday, November 7, 2025 at 2:00 P.M.
The specification mandates that MI cables utilize copper solid conductors with magnesium oxide mineral insulation rated at 600 volts and 90 degrees Celsius, featuring seamless copper metal sheaths and UL certification (FHIT.1850). MC cables must employ stranded copper conductors with low-smoke, halogen-free insulation, also rated 600 volts and 90 degrees Celsius, with UL certification (FHIT.120). MC cable is explicitly prohibited for use in healthcare projects. Cable installation requires support spacing not exceeding six feet on center for MI cables and three feet horizontally for MC cables, with cable ladder trays meeting NEMA Standard VE-1-1991 specifications. All manufacturers must have minimum ten years documented experience and products must be manufactured in North America. Field quality control includes physical damage inspection, continuity verification, insulation resistance measurement prior to energization, and manufacturer certification confirming installation compliance with all requirements.
