About this file
This is a Frequently Asked Questions document for Macon-Bibb County related to an asphalt milling and paving project. The project involves full-width milling from curb to curb (or road edge to road edge on roads without curb and gutter) with subsequent asphalt placement. Work hours are restricted to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or as daylight permits, with special requests for night work requiring approval. Contractors may use tripod stands or post-mount installations for advance warning signs. Final repaving must be completed within one day of milling work. Patching operations require milling to remove cracking as needed to a maximum depth of four inches, with patches placed at least one lane width wide. The project specifies 9.5mm asphalt Type 1 at 1.25 inches depth for all roads except Fulton Mill Road, which requires 19mm asphalt at 1.5 inches depth.
Compaction testing is not required for submission to Macon-Bibb County. Milling and paving at side road intersections must extend through the side road end of the curb radius, but driveway paving is not included in the project scope. Contractors are responsible for clipping and removing all shoulder material from the site, with shoulder building, grassing, barrel placement, and Low/Soft Shoulder sign installation not required on shoulders without curb and gutter. Patching mix must match the paving mix specifications. A shuttle buggy is permitted but not required during 12.5mm placement operations.
