918DP Clock Gauge Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Instructions
The 918DP Clock Gauge is designed to measure liquid volume in an aboveground storage tank. The gauge mounts on top of the tank and is activated by a float connected to a cable. The 918DP contains two normally open switches to connect to an alarm device that can provide an audible alarm at two desired tank levels that are set during installation.
Failure to follow any or all of the warnings and instructions in this document could result in a hazardous liquid spill, which could result in property damage, environmental contamination, fire, explosion, serious injury or death.
NOTE: The most accurate method to calibrate the tank is with fluid in it. This will take into account variables associated with the float position, the mechanism, and the fluid density. To calibrate a low alarm setting, the tank fluid level must be several inches lower than the desired alarm level setting.
Electrical Switch Ratings 10 watt resistive load, 127VAC-354mA max/ 180VDC-500mA max (Ratings for resistive loads only.)
*Do not use for inductive loads.

Steps
1. Verify contents of box. You should have received the gauge, float, installation instructions, re-order/overfill labels, warning tag, cable tie, and optionally the alarm device. Inspect the items for shipping damage. DO NOT use if damage is found. DO NOT pull and release the cable uncontrollably. This can cause damage to the internal mechanism and render the gauge inoperable. ALWAYS hold onto cable and allow itto move in a slow steady motion.
2. Locate the opening, on the top of the tank, where the gauge is to be installed. If possible, select a location away from the fill port to avoid excessive turbulence that could affect the float. Also make certain that there are no objects inside the tank, near the selected opening, upon which the float and cable could get tangled.
3. Once an opening is selected, measure to the bottom to determine the current liquid level height in the tank.
Record this height in feet and inches as you will need it to set the gauge once it is installed.
4. Apply pipe dope or Teflon tape to the male threads on the gauge. If you have a gauge with female threads, apply the pipe dope or Teflon tape to the male threads of the pipe on the tank. DO NOT get pipe dope on the cable of the gauge.
5. Open the float clip and attach the float clip to the swivel end of the cable. Latch the float clip making sure the float clip is securely closed.
6. Slowly lower the float into the tank. Guide the cable through your fingers letting the cable slide through slowly.
DO NOT allow the float to free fall into the tank as this will cause the cable to come off of the pulley mecha nism and render the gauge inoperable.
7. Once the float is resting on the liquid level (or tank bottom if the tank is empty) thread the gauge into, or onto, the tank fitting. Use a pipe wrench or strap wrench, on the large hex at the bottom of the gauge, to tighten the gauge into, or onto, the tank fitting.
8. Remove the back plate retaining ring and back metal cover from the gauge. Hold the large pulley wheel in place and loosen the thumb nut (Figure 1). Insert a small flat blade screwdriver into the slot on the end of the shaft. Rotate the shaft with the screwdriver, which will move the gauge hand, until the gauge hands indicate the level that you recorded in Step 3. Note: Short hand indicates feet and long hand indicates inches

Operation The 918AC Series System Interface may be used in applications where one to four sets of normally open or normally closed dry contacts are available. Two possible applications are use as an overfill alarm or as an interstitial alarm. These two uses are addressed below.
Use as an Overfill Alarm Use with the Morrison Brothers 918 Clock Gauge or other similar input device.
1. Prior to filling a tank,
a. Check for an existing overfill condition by observing the front panel.
i. A blinking channel indicator and no audible alarm tells you that there is an existing, auto silenced alarm on that channel.
ii. A solidly illuminated indicator tells you that there is an existing, manually acknowledged alarm on that channel.
b. Check the overall operation of the System Interface.
i. Press and hold the "Silenc/fest" button while listening to the Audible Alarm and observing the Channel Alarm Indicator(s).
ii. All of the Visual Enunciators should be slowly blinking
iii. The Audible Enunciator/ Alarm should be loud and strong, sounding about one second on and one second off.
2. If an overfill occurs while filling the tank, the Channel Alarm Indicator associated with the overfill condition will flash and, if configured to do so, the Audible Alarm will sound.
a. The alarm can be acknowledged and silenced by pressing the "Silence/fest" button on the front of the Alarm.
b. If the alarm is not silenced by the operator, and the channel is configured to "Auto-Silence", then the System Interface will continue in the alarm state for no more than the timeout period at which point it will silence itself. The visual indicator on the front panel will continue to blink, showing a new, un-acknowledged alarm.
Use as an Interstitial Alarm
I. Should the contacts associated with an interstitial switch be activated, the System Interface will immediately go into an alarm state; it will illuminate the Channel Alarm Indicator associated with the alarm condition and, if configured to do so, sound the Audible Alarm.
2. If the System Interface is configured to "auto-silence" on the channel associated with the interstitial sensor, and the alarm is not silenced manually by pressing the "Silence/fest" button, the System Interface will continue in this alarm state for no more than its timeout period at which point it will silence itself. The visual indicator on the front panel will continue to blink, showing a new, un-acknowledged alarm.
3. Ifan operator acknowledges the alarm condition by pressing the "Silence/Test'' button, the System Interface will silence the audible enunciator (if configured to sound on this input) and the channel alarm indicator will illuminate continuously until the alarm condition is removed.
4. To check for an alarm state once the Alarm has silenced itself simply observe the front panel. A blinking channel indicator and no audible alarm tells you that there is au existing, auto-silenced alarm on that channel.
A channel indicator which is continuously illuminated indicates that there is an existing, acknowledged (silenced) alarm.
