FKC MIDDLE REACH CAPACITY CORRECTION PROJECT PHASE 1 PAGE 31 30 00 - 3
F. RSN 31 30 00-4 Detailed Shoring Plan:
1. The CONTRACTOR, prior to beginning any trench or structure excavation 5 feet deep or deeper, shall submit to the GOVERNMENT and shall be in receipt of the GOVERNMENT's written acceptance of the CONTRACTOR's detailed plan showing the design of shoring, bracing, sloping of the sides of excavation, or other provisions for worker protection against the hazard of caving ground during the excavation of such trenches or structure excavation.
2. The CONTRACTOR’s plan shall be prepared and signed and sealed by a Professional Engineer experienced in the field of geotechnical engineering and licensed in the State of California.
3. The GOVERNMENT’s acceptance of said plan will only be for verification of submittal of the plan with this requirement.
4. If such plan varies from the shoring system standards established in the Construction Safety Orders of the State of California, such alternative systems plans shall be prepared by a civil or structural engineer licensed in the State of California.
G. RSN 31 30 00-5, Excavation Permit:
1. Copy of the excavation permit issued by the California Department of Industrial Safety.
H. RSN 31 30 00-6, Sample Tests Results of Materials Proposed for the WORK:
1. The CONTRACTOR shall submit samples of materials proposed for the WORK in conformance with the requirements of Section 01 33 00 – Submittals.
2. Sample sizes shall be as determined by the testing laboratory and in accordance with applicable ASTM standards.
PART 2 -- PRODUCTS
2.1 MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS
A. General
1. Fill, backfill, and embankment materials shall be clean fine earth, rock, gravel, or sand, free from grass, roots, brush, other vegetation and organic matter.
2. Fill and backfill materials that are to be placed within 6 inches of any structure or pipe shall be free of rocks or unbroken masses of earth materials having a maximum dimension larger than 3 inches.
B. Unsuitable Materials
1. Soils which, when classified under ASTM D2487- Standard Classification of Soils for Engineering Purposes (Unified Soil Classification System), fall in the classifications of Pt, OH, CH, MH, or OL shall be classified as unsuitable.
