About this file
This is a technical specification data sheet (Section 22 10 01.13) detailing requirements for high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe and fittings for propane and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) service.
The specification requires pipe sizes from 1/2" to 4" using PE 4710 polyethylene resin with a design stress rating of 1,600 psi hydrostatic at 73.4°F. The pipe must include UV protection using at least 2% carbon black and conform to ASTM D2513 standards. Operating pressure is limited to 30 psig or less per 2009 IFGC, with installation permitted only outdoors and underground. Pressure ratings at 100°F range from 64-100 psi depending on the SDR (standard dimension ratio). Fittings must be molded and butt-fusion joined per ASTM D3261, with flanges only permitted above ground as part of approved transition fittings. Approved manufacturers include JM Eagle PE 4710 and Driscoplex 8300 Series PE 4710, with Georg Fischer and Central Plastics specified for risers and transitions.
