About this file
This is a technical specification section (09 9113 - Exterior Painting) that details requirements for exterior painting work at Big Cypress National Preserve Headquarters Complex. The document outlines surface preparation, field application of paints, and paint systems for various exterior surfaces.
The specification covers painting of exposed steel lintels, ledge angles, and exposed mechanical/electrical equipment on the roof and outdoors, while excluding factory-finished items, natural stones, ceramic tiles, glass, and other specified surfaces. Key requirements include VOC compliance with EPA standards, submission of product data, color samples, and maintenance materials including 1 gallon of each paint color. The paint systems specified include a 3-coat alkyd system for ferrous metals (ME-OP-3A) and galvanized metals (MgE-OP-3A), with specific performance requirements for adhesion (522 psi), corrosion resistance, impact resistance (60 inch lbs), and heat resistance (200 degrees F). Surface preparation requirements and application procedures are detailed for various substrates including concrete, masonry, steel, and wood surfaces.
