About this file
This amendment to solicitation 140P2022R0018 provides additional documents and answers a question regarding aircraft use. The National Park Service is seeking proposals to establish firefighting facilities at Stehekin, Washington, including a fire cache, dormitory, and utilities to support firefighting operations. The amendment incorporates submittal lists and structural test and inspection statements for the proposed buildings. It also confirms the public airport may be used to transport crews during the contract period from June through October, with rotor aircraft access when snow is present, but not for commercial passenger flights. The proposal due date remains August 11, 2022 at 12:00 pm Mountain time.

Q: Is there any reason that we would not be allowed to use the airstrip for transporting crews via airplane during the course of the contract?
We assume that the airstrip is available for commuting purposes but wanted to be sure. Will you please confirm that the airstrip is available for commuting purposes?
A: The Stehekin airport is open to the public typically by no later than June 1 remaining open to at least October 1 yearly for non-commercial fixed wing or rotor aircraft. However if conditions are favorable such as no snow on the runway, WSDOT Aviation typically opens the airport up sooner than June 1 or keeps it open later than October 1. If we open the airport outside of the June 1 October 1 dates, I will post a Notice to Air Mission (NOTAM) through the
FAA Leidos Flight Service Station (FSS) publication process. Pilots are advised to check
FAA NOTAM¿s and contact the Airport Manager for current facility information. When there is snow on the airport, it could be used by rotor wing aircraft only.
Commercial Operators are not permitted to fly passengers for hire to the airport. One other available option is that Commercial Sea Plane access is allowed at the Stehekin Water Landing area and they can use the dock facilities at the
Stehekin Landing.
c. The due date for proposals remains 08/11/2022 at 12:00 pm Mountain Daylight Time.
