About this file

This document is a Standard Specification (AMC-583-1B) from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Atlantic Marine Center, detailing general requirements for liferaft inspections. The specification outlines comprehensive inspection procedures for ocean liferafts and hydraulic releases, mandating annual and five-year U.S. Coast Guard inspections performed by an authorized service facility of the liferaft manufacturer.

Key requirements include removing liferafts from ships for inspection, renewing specific components such as bands, clips, instruction labels, flashlight batteries, and repair kit cement, and providing a detailed report for each liferaft with a cost breakdown. The five-year inspection additionally requires a CO2 recharge of the inflation cylinder with weight certification. The specification references Code of Federal Regulations Title 46, Parts 160.151 and 160.062, and specifies that the contractor must provide all necessary labor, materials, services, tools, supervision, and technical expertise to complete the required inspections and servicing.
