Section 6: Crane Removal and Re-installation
SECTION 1
CRANE INSTALLATION
Step 1: Clean pedestal flange and bearing surfaces. Mix two containers of Devcon
10110 Plastic Steel (bedding compound) and apply an even, 1/4-inch thick layer on the pedestal flange. Use care to avoid filling the boltholes.
Step 2: Lift the crane and place on the pedestal. Install the swing bearing bolts and torque to _____160_______ft-lbs. Remove lifting slings. Allow 24 hours curing time for the bedding compound.
Step 3: Torque the swing bearing bolts to a final value of _____786________ft-lbs using a criss-crossing pattern.
Step 4: Conduct the Crane Start-up Procedures and Load Test. Only authorized persons, having read and understood this Owner’s Manual, should perform the load test and ongoing operation of the crane.
Step 5: After approximately 50 hours of operation, recheck the swing bearing bolts for proper torque. Refer to Section 4, Swing Bearing Bolt Maintenance, for additional periodic checks of the swing bearing bolt torques during crane service life.
ROTOSEAL SWIVEL JOINT INSTALLATION
Note: Two persons required for installation.
Step 1: Insert two (2) 6” alignment studs (all thread) into the rotoseal core.
Utilize holes that are 180° apart.
Step 2: Install o-rings into the underside of the top hat (bolted to the center of the turret base plate.) Utilize grease to hold the o-rings in place if required.
Step 3: Raise rotoseal barrel/core assembly into place near the top hat inside the pedestal. Ensure that the register on the underside of the top hat is aligned with the recess in the top of the core and lift the rotoseal up until the alignment bolts pass through the top hat. 2nd person (above top hat) can now thread two (2) nuts onto the alignment bolts, allowing the barrel assembly to hang freely from the top hat.
Step 4: Evenly tighten the two nuts to pull the barrel assembly up to the top hat. Ensure that the core contacts the top hat evenly and that the o-rings are not disturbed.
Step 5: Install the supplied top hat to core retaining bolts. Tighten until snug.
Step 6: Remove the two (2) alignment studs and replace with supplied retaining bolts. Tighten until snug.
Step 7: Torque all retaining bolts to 20 ft-lbs utilizing a criss-crossing pattern.
Step 8: If possible, rotate rotoseal barrel to align the anti-rotation bar socket with the tabs on the I.D. of the pedestal.
NOTE: Due to tightness of the seals in a new rotoseal, it may be necessary to connect all hoses and rotate crane under power to align socket with the tabs. Use caution to ensure hoses do not twist and/or kink as rotoseal rotates inside pedestal.
Step 9: Install anti-rotation bar in the socket and secure to rotoseal with bolt and nut.
NOTE: If rotoseal is mounted prior to installation of crane on pedestal, ensure the crane is lowered into place with the anti-rotation bar positioned between the tabs on the I.D. of the pedestal.
CRANE START-UP PROCEDURE
Step 1: If new piping was installed as part of crane circuit, ensure it is flushed to a cleanliness level of ISO 16/14 prior to connection of crane or directional valve.
Step 2: Install hydraulic hoses from the directional control valve to the hydraulic fluid swivel (or porting plate) as specified on the tags and/or crane hydraulic schematic. Connect pressure and return lines to the directional control valve.
Note: If the new Hydra-Pro crane is connecting to existing customer supplied hydraulic power unit, skip steps 3, 4 and 5.
Step 3: Ensure the hydraulic reservoir is filled with suitable hydraulic fluid.
Step 4: Ensure suction valve is open and bleed air from the hydraulic pump at the pressure port.
Step 5: Start/stop the electric motor (as applicable) and confirm that direction of rotation is correct.
Step 6: Adjust directional control valve relief and/or pump compensator (if applicable) to minimum setting. Start system and allow idling. Check for leaks at all connections.
Step 7: Monitor the reservoir oil level and filter elements. Add oil as required. Change elements if filter is in bypass condition.
Step 8: Bleed the swing drive brake(s) at port marked ‘bleed’. Partially engage the swing function with the bleed port loosened and allow oil to flow into a suitable container until no air bubbles are visible. Tighten bleed port.
Step 9: Adjust directional control valve relief and/or pump compensator (if applicable) to approximately 1200 psi. For open center systems, engage a cylinder function at full extent of travel (i.e.- boom down) to allow setting of relief.
Step 10: Operate all crane functions. Ensure all cylinder functions are operated to full extent of travel in both directions a minimum of three times to remove air. Lift a light load (<25% of SWL) with the hoist. Check for leaks at all connections.
Step 11: If applicable, adjust directional control valve relief and/or pump compensator to pressure listed in technical specifications. Perform Crane Load Test as described in this section. Check for leaks at all connections.
Step 12: Conduct operator and maintenance person training prior to operation.
CRANE LOAD TEST
The crane should be load tested after successful completion of the installation and start-up procedures.
Note: To ensure test load is lifted at the maximum crane radius, extend knuckle and extension cylinders fully, and then stroke the boom cylinder such that the pin of the lower sheave is at the same height as the main boom hinge.
Conduct test with a weight of 125% of the rated SWL, calculated as follows:
_______6600________lbs SWL x 1.25 =
______8250_______lbs @ _____46______foot radius (maximum radius)
Note: An increase the system operating pressure may be required to achieve a lift of
125% of the rated SWL. Increase pressure slowly only until test load can be lifted.
Ensure pressure is returned to the correct setting listed in the technical specifications upon completion of load testing.

5. O-Rings (Buna N material) in the brake piston are compatible with petroleum based fluid. Do not use non-petroleum based fluid. O-Ring materials that are compatible with fluids other than petroleum base are available. Please contact Ausco. Petroleum fluids are the hydraulic fluids normally used in hydraulic pump and motor systems (e.g.: SAE 10).
Caution Notes:
A) WET BRAKES ARE SHIPPED WITHOUT OIL UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. OIL MUST BE ADDED UPON INSTALLATION.
B) Bench testing may cause distortion of components or bolt failure. Mounting bolts must be used for supplemental clamping.
Tighten bolts to torque shown in note 4 above.
C) Unless otherwise stated, no side loads are permissible. Contact Ausco for overhung load adaptor recommendations.
D) All brakes have a limitation in their ability to absorb dynamic braking energy. Energy absorption is application specific, so it is important that the brake be tested in the intended application by the customer to insure proper performance. Testing of this type is beyond the scope of Ausco
Products who manufactures only one component of the braking system. Failure to test the brake in the application may result in damage to the brake. Such damage can cause degraded brake performance, reduced brake life, or complete brake failure. Serious injury or vehicle damage may result. If you need additional assistance, please contact Ausco.

6. Torque specifications on wet brakes are based on using hydraulic oils without friction modifiers, such as those developed for high pressure hydraulic systems. Fluids containing friction modifiers or anti-wear additives (such as EP type additives, graphite, or moly-disulfide) will significantly affect the brake torque. It is strongly recommended that the wet brake be tested in the specific application.
7. Multi-disc brakes with service brake can use separate fluid types. Contact Ausco for specific application. In every instance, seal material must be compatible with the specific hydraulic fluid.
8. Contact Ausco if parking brake is to be used in a dynamic application.
9. All brakes listed are designed for horizontal shaft orientation;
if vertical orientation is needed, please contact Ausco.
10. If shaft speed exceeds the recommended speed listed on the catalog page, please contact Ausco.
11. When emergency release of Ausco multi-disc brake is required, an Ausco hydraulic hand pump #31090 can be incorporated into the hydraulic system. Contact Ausco for more information.
12. Contact Ausco for speed sensor models that are available.

***USE EXPLODED VIEW ON BACK FOR REFERENCE***
Remove all shaft related components from shaft (23) (i.e. keys, nuts). To aid in reassembly of the motor, make a "V" shaped set of lines from the endcover (21) to the housing using either paint or a marker. With shaft facing down, secure motor in vise by clamping on to housing (10).
Loosen and remove seven bolts (22) holding motor assembly together. Remove endcover (21) and endcover seal (7). Discard seal. Remove balance plate (19) taking care not to drop the three steel balls (20) located in the three holes in the balance plate (19). Remove rotor assembly (18), manifold (17), drive link spacer (16) (NOTE: Some motors do not use spacer), drive link (15) and thrust bearing (14). Remove body seals (6) from rotor assembly
(18) and housing seal (2) from housing (10) and discard seals.
Gently tap shaft (23) upward from housing (10) and remove through rear of housing and lay aside. Remove housing (10) from vise and turn over. Pry dust seal (1) from housing and discard.
Using a slide and hammer bearing puller (see Figure 1) remove rear housing bearing (8) through rear of housing.
Remove the thrust washer (13), front thrust bearing (12), front thrust washer (11), shaft seal (5), back-up seal (4), and back-up ring (3) from housing. Discard items (3, 4, & 5).
At this point, all parts should be cleaned in an oil-base solvent and dried using compressed air (For safety, observe all OSHA safety guidelines). All new seals should be lightly coated in clean oil prior to installation.
Place shaft (23) on a clean flat surface with output end facing up. Place on shaft, thrust washer (13), then thrust bearing (12), then front thrust washer (11). Lightly coat seal area of shaft with clean oil and place shaft seal (5) down onto shaft (23) making sure that lip on seal faces down (See Figure 2 for correct seal orientation) until it contacts thrust washer (11). Carefully install the back-up seal (4) onto the shaft (23) with the flat side up and the seal lip facing the shaft seal (5). Place the metal back-up ring (3) onto the shaft with the flat side against the backup seal (4).
Place housing (10) onto shaft assembly. Place housing shaft assembly back in vise with output shaft facing down.
Install rear housing bearing (8) into rear of housing until bearing (8) contacts the stop in the housing (flat side of bearing (8) should face upward away from housing.
Install drive link (15) in shaft end (crowned splines goes into shaft end). Place thrust bearing (14) over drive link (15). If shaft assembly is properly seated in housing (10), thrust bearing (14) will be flush or countersunk with rear surface of housing (10).
Install housing seal (2) into groove in housing (10). Place manifold (17) onto housing, (10) side with only seven holes facing housing (10). Place body seals (6) in grooves in both sides of rotor (18). Place rotor (18) onto manifold (17) with side of rotor with chamfer in splines facing manifold (17). If motor used a drive link spacer (16), place spacer (16) on top of drive link (15).
Install balance plate (19) onto rotor (18) making sure holes for steel balls (20) faces up. Install three steel balls
(20) in holes in balance plate (19). Install endcover seal (7) into groove in endcover (21) and place endcover onto balance plate (19). Install seven assembly bolts (22) and pre-torque to 10 ft. lbs. Using the bolt torque sequence shown in Figure 3, final torque all bolts to 50 ft. lbs.
Remove motor from vise and place on work surface with shaft (23) facing up. Making sure that lip on seal (1) faces up, place dust seal (1) over shaft (23). Using a sleeve and a hammer, carefully drive dust seal (1) into place.
