About this opportunity
The School Board of Polk County, Florida, has issued a solicitation (Bid No. 038-MDW-0319) for a comprehensive Fire Extinguisher Systems Service Term Contract to establish competitive pricing for inspection and service of fire safety equipment across district facilities. The procurement seeks a vendor to provide labor, materials, supervision, and equipment for comprehensive fire extinguisher services, including inspection, testing, recharging, repairing, installing, and labeling of portable fire extinguishers and automatic extinguishing systems. Specific requirements include servicing equipment ranging from 2.5 to 20-pound extinguishers, performing six-year maintenance checks, conducting hydrostatic testing, and managing CO2 tank and fire suppression systems. Bidders must possess active Class A (Type 07 Class 01) and Class D (Type 07 Class 04) licenses issued by the Florida State Fire Marshal. The original bid was released on February 28, 2019, with sealed bids due on March 18, 2019, at 3:00 PM, and the initial contract period was set from April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020, with potential extension options.
The contract has been consistently awarded to Protegis, LLC dba Protegis Fire Safety (previously operating as Florida Fire Service) through multiple renewals, with the most recent extension approved on February 17, 2023, extending the contract through March 31, 2024. While no specific set-aside designations for disadvantaged enterprises were explicitly mentioned, the bid requires vendors to demonstrate extensive experience in fire extinguisher and automatic extinguisher system services by providing professional references. The bid tabulation documents indicate total bid amounts ranging from approximately $26,000 to $69,000, depending on the vendor and specific line items. Pricing is unit-based, with costs varying from around $5 to $350 per unit or service, covering a comprehensive range of fire safety equipment maintenance and replacement across multiple district facilities. The School Board reserves the right to make awards to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder meeting all specifications, with the potential for a secondary award if necessary.
