About this opportunity

The Department of Energy Office of Science is requesting information on qualified sources to provide simulation and design support services for Radio-Frequency Systems for the Electron Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory, with responses due by September 16, 2026. This is a Request for Information only; no solicitation has been released.

Work encompasses six primary tasks across Fiscal Year 2027 focused on RF system design, simulation studies, and power requirement evaluations for the Electron Storage Ring, Hadron Storage Ring, Ion Recirculation Ring, and Recirculation Linac. Tasks include power requirement evaluations with beam transient analysis, comprehensive HSR RF system simulations, detuning optimization studies at frequencies of 24, 49, 98, 197, 394, and 591 MHz, transverse distribution analysis in the presence of RF noise and crab cavities, and power requirement confirmation for the RCS 591 MHz RF system during ramp operations. Deliverables consist of written technical reports for each task and comprehensive documentation including codes and manuals, with reports due by the end of Q1 (Tasks 3 and 4), Q2 (Tasks 1 and 5), Q3 (Task 6), and Q4 (Task 2), preliminary code development by end of Q3, and complete documentation by end of Q4.

Performance requires weekly teleconference participation with EIC RF Systems technical leads for status reporting and progress review, with videoconferences anticipated no more than once per week. Work is performed at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Interested parties must submit capability statements demonstrating relevant qualifications to Eric Nagel at enagel@bnl.gov.
