About this opportunity

The Department of Energy Office of Science is preparing to procure two high-current power-supply systems for the Electron-Ion Collider HSR main arc magnets through an RFI/Sources Sought, with responses due December 11, 2026 at 5:00 PM EST. Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC (BSA), operator of Brookhaven National Laboratory under a DOE prime contract, issues the RFI, and the notice uses no set-aside. Model A is a 7,000 A, 400 V ramped two-quadrant DC supply for the dipole circuit, and Model B is a 7,000 A, 100 V unit for the quadrupole circuit. Both are installed at BNL building 1004B. Requirements include NRTL certification of all electrical equipment and the complete supply, an ISO 9001-compliant quality system, IEEE 1202 cables, 2200 Vrms ground isolation, short-term current stability of 10 ppm and long-term stability of 30 ppm, a Siemens S7-1515-2PN PLC or equivalent, and EPICS software interfaces. Stored magnetic energy is 110.25 MJ for Model A and 17.15 MJ for Model B. Milestones run from award: Preliminary Design Review at 12 weeks, Final Design Review at 20 weeks, and delivery at 173 weeks for the quadrupole supply and 186 weeks for the dipole supply. A two-year warranty follows final acceptance. The RFI requires a Statement of Work Compliance Matrix, a Budgetary Pricing Table covering nonrecurring engineering, both systems with quench protection assemblies, and tooling/test equipment, and identification of exceptions to BSA General Terms and Conditions for Noncommercial Items (Revision 25.0, September 2026). Submit electronically to Mark Bryan at mbryan@bnl.gov. The RFI is informational only and does not obligate the government to pay for information received.
