About this opportunity
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Armstrong Flight Research Center intends to solicit proposals and award multiple contracts to develop, conduct ground testing of, and flight test a megawatt-class Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration system. Offerors must demonstrate the ability to design, integrate, and test an electric aircraft powertrain capable of delivering over 1.5 megawatts of power to validate performance, collect certification data, and mature technologies for industry transition. Proposals will be evaluated based on the offeror's ability to meet technical requirements for power levels, operating parameters, weight targets, and other performance measures, with an anticipated period of performance from December 2023 through June 2025.
There is no set-aside designation for this opportunity. The primary NAICS code is 336411 for aircraft manufacturing and PSC code is C711 for aircraft and aircraft components. Current incumbents for related research include Joby Aviation and Ampaire. The total projected value of awards is unavailable, but the demonstration program seeks to validate technologies supporting electrified aircraft introduction in NASA's 2030-2035 timeframe through ground demonstrations and at least two flight tests of an integrated megawatt-class electrified powertrain system.
