About this file
This technical document outlines measures for evaluating an electrified aircraft powertrain demonstration project. Key performance parameters include metrics for power density, efficiency, and specific power. Measures of effectiveness will assess achievement of strategic technology goals for energy efficiency and reduced emissions. Technical performance measures are aligned with objectives for subsonic transport electrification. Validation methods incorporate ground and flight tests to evaluate the powertrain system against defined metrics.
The related federal contract opportunity notice announces NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center's intent to solicit proposals for an "Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration" program. The program aims to develop, test, and demonstrate a megawatt-class electrified aircraft powertrain system through multiple award contracts. Interested offerors should monitor the Federal Business Opportunities website for release of a potential request for proposal.

Technical Measurements are the set of measurement activities used to provide insight into the progress in the definition and development of the technical solution, ongoing assessment of the associated risks and issues, and the likelihood of meeting the critical objectives of the stakeholder.
Technical Measurements establish a set of measures based on the expectations and requirements that will be tracked and assessed to determine overall system effectiveness and stakeholder satisfaction. These technical measures include: Measures Of Effectiveness (MOEs), Key Performance Parameters (KPPs), Measures Of Performance (MOPs), and Technical Performance Measures (TPMs). The project stakeholders are defined in EPFD-01-01 Preliminary Project Plan.
There interdependent relationships are seen in Figure 2 below. Measures Of Effectiveness (MOEs) and will track progress against the stakeholder’s needs and expectations. Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) flow from the MOEs in the context of a Vision Vehicle. The MOPs flow from the MOEs. The EPFD technical measures will be used track progress of individual flight demonstration efforts conducted within the project.
