SECTION 102113 - TOILET COMPARTMENTS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY:
A. This Section includes toilet compartments, urinal screens, (shower and dressing compartments,) and related accessories.
B. Related Work Specified Elsewhere:
1. Toilet and Bath Accessories: SECTION 102800.
1.02 REFERENCES:
A. Applicable Standards:
1. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).
2. American National Standard Institute (ANSI):
a. A117.1 - Physical Handicapped Accessibility Requirements.
3. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):
a. Accessibility Guidelines (AG).
1.03 SUBMITTALS:
A. Submit as specified in DIVISION 1.
B. Includes, but not limited to, the following:
1. Product Data: Specifications and catalog cuts for materials, fabrication, and installation.
2. Shop Drawings: Including layout and elevations of all compartments, and instructions for anchorage devices built into other Work. Include color chart for selection of colors (and pattern) by Engineer/Architect.
3. Sample (6 inches square) of each selected color and finish on same substrate to be used in the Work, for color verifications after selections have been made.
C. LEED Submittal:
1. Product Data for Credit MR 4.1 and Credit MR 4.2: For products having recycled content, documentation indicating percentages by weight of postconsumer and preconsumer recycled content. Include statement indicating costs for each product having recycled content.
2. Product Data for Credit EQ 4.4: For particleboard, documentation indicating that product contains no urea formaldehyde.
1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE:
A. Take field measurements prior to preparation of Submittals and fabrication where possible, to ensure proper fitting of Work.
B. Furnish inserts and anchorages which must be built into other Work. Coordinate delivery to avoid delay of other Work.
1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING:
A. Package compartment components to protect during shipment.
B. Store inside building and protect from damage and warping.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS:
A. Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products of one of the following:

2.02 TOILET COMPARTMENTS:
A. General Design and Construction Requirements:
1. Style: Floor-supported, Head-rail-braced.
2. All compartments with doors shall be designed for exterior emergency access.
3. Compartments for handicapped shall be designed as indicated.
4. Doors shall be 24-inch width except those for handicapped shall be 32-inch width unless otherwise indicated. Doors shall remain partially open in unoccupied compartments.
5. Provide materials selected for flatness and smoothness. Exposed surfaces which exhibit pitting, seam marks, roller marks, stains, discolorations, telegraphing of core material, or other imperfections on finished units will not be acceptable.
6. Compartment panels and doors shall be reinforced as required for hardware and accessories.
7. Hardware per compartment shall include door hinges, latch, keeper and strike, wall brackets, coat hook and bumper, and fasteners.
a. Hinges: Cutout inset type, adjustable to hold door open at any angle up to 90o.
Provide gravity type, spring-action cam type, or concealed torsion-rod type, to suit manufacturer's standards.
b. Latch and Keeper: Surface-mounted unit designed for emergency access and complying with ADA requirements.
c. Coat Hook and Bumper: Manufacturer's standard units.
d. Door Pull: Manufacturer's standard unit.
e. Finish of Exposed Hardware: Stainless steel.
f. Hardware shall be vandalproof and theftproof.
8. Exposed fasteners shall be of stainless steel. Concealed anchors shall be hot-dipped galvanized, cadmium-plated, or other rust-resistant, protective-coated steel.
B. Specific Requirements per Style of Compartment:
1. Floor-Supported Partitions with Overhead Rail Bracing: Furnish galvanized steel anchorage devices, complete with threaded rods, lock washers, and leveling adjustment nuts at pilasters, to permit structural connection at floor. Provide extruded, anodized-aluminum head rail and returns. Furnish Type 302 stainless steel shoe at each pilaster to conceal anchorage.
C. Specific Requirements per Compartment Construction:
1. Stainless Steel Finish:
a. Doors and Panels: Two sheets or 20-gauge, Type 304 stainless steel with No. 4 finish, sound-deadening core, 1-inch thickness.
b. Face plates of doors, panels, and stiles shall be welded together around perimeter, and have stainless steel molding.
c. Pilasters shall be same construction as doors and panels except 1-1/4-inch thickness.

2. Accessories:
a. Furnish units with chromium-plated finish except as otherwise specified. Provide one of the following units for each compartment, unless otherwise indicated:
(1) Dual-roll toilet paper holder.
(2) Grab bars at handicapped compartments, 1-1/2-inch od, knurled finish stainless steel.
2.03 URINAL SCREENS:
A. General Design Requirement:
1. Type: Wall-hung floor-supported.
2. Construction and finish shall be same as for toilet compartments.
3. Size: 24" x 36" as indicated.
2.04 SHOWER AND DRESSING COMPARTMENTS:
A. Type: Floor-supported.
B. Shower and dressing compartments shall be of similar construction as toilet compartments. All components shall be specifically constructed and finished for shower areas and to resist moisture. Finish shall be similar to toilet compartments.
C. Shower Base: Precast terrazzo. Provide with strainer/drain.
D. Accessories:
1. Vinyl shower curtain and hooks.
2. Stainless steel soap dish.
3. Single-lever valve.
4. Shower head.
5. Grab bars with reinforced panels.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION:
A. Secure partitions, pilasters, and urinal screens to walls and floors as applicable and as required by supporting construction.
B. Provide clearances of not more than 1/2 inch between pilasters and panels, and not more than 1 inch between panels and walls.
C. Use a minimum of two wall stirrup brackets per panel. Install compartments or screens plumb, square, rigid, and level. Locate wall brackets so that holes for wall anchorages occur in masonry or tile joints where applicable. Coordinate installation of all required supporting members.
D. Specific Requirements per Style of Compartment:
1. Floor-Supported Overhead-Braced Partitions: Secure pilasters to floor; level, plumb, and tighten installation with devices furnished. Secure overhead brace to each pilaster with not less than two fasteners. Set pilaster units with anchorages having not less than a 2-inch penetration into structural floor, unless otherwise recommended by partition manufacturer. Level, plumb, and tighten installation with devices furnished. Hang doors and adjust so that tops of doors are parallel with overhead brace when doors are in closed position and level with top of pilaster.
2. Screens: Attach with concealed anchorage devices to suit supporting structure. Set units to provide support and to resist lateral impact.
3. Accessories: Mount accessories to partition units.

4. Accessories (Handicapped Shower Compartments):
a. Folding seat - locate on wall opposite the controls in 36" x 36" stall; locate on wall adjacent to controls in 30" x 60" stall. Mount 19 inches above the floor.
b. Grab bars - mount 36 inches above floor.
c. Soap dish - mount 44 inches above floor.
d. Hand held spray head and controls for shower - mount 44 inches above floor.
E. Replace any damaged components as directed by Engineer/Architect except for minor scratches which can be repaired to original condition.
F. Refinish minor scratches and imperfections of surfaces to match color (and pattern) using materials and methods recommended by compartment manufacturer.
3.02 ADJUST AND CLEAN:
A. Hardware Adjustment: Adjust and lubricate hardware for proper operation. Set hinges on in-swinging doors to hold open approximately 15o or 30o from closed position when unlatched.
Set hinges on out-swinging doors (and entrance swing doors) to return to fully closed position.
B. Clean exposed surfaces of partition systems using materials and methods recommended by manufacturer, and provide protection as necessary to prevent damage during remainder of construction period.
