1.2 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

1.2.1 Project Description

The project is for a large hangar, access apron pavement, utilities and other infrastructure that are required for a complete and usable LAMH.

Key components of the LAMH project include:

o 6,000 SM single bay, large aircraft maintenance hangar, with fuel cell maintenance capabilities o Hangar Access Apron of approximately 8,900 SM o Water Storage Tanks for fire protection and domestic water supply o Electrical Yard to house multiple permanent compact substations and generators until commercial power can be provided o Exterior lighting o Communications distribution system that includes a fiber optic Outside Plant (OSP) distribution system, NIPRNet and SIPRNet, and Electronic Security Systems (ESS) which provide Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) capabilities o Mechanical Yard to house the chiller and other mechanical equipment o Domestic sewage holding tank with the ability to convert to a small lift station to integrate with the full build-out of the sanitary sewer collection system for the U.S. Development Area o Roadway pavement and vehicular parking. Roadway includes a looped road on backside of hangar to provide fire apparatus the ability to turn around when access to the existing road on the west side of the hangar is closed in accordance with the Conceptual Plan o Security fencing and gates

Civil and Site Work.

SECTION 01 11 00 Page 2

A temporary drainage swale shall be located along the north and west side of the site is designed to handle runoff in the interim condition prior to grading the adjacent site. The project includes an onsite tank with a hydro pneumatic tank and supply pump assembly providing flow and pressure.

Piping will be plastic. Steel tanks for firefighting water shall be located inside the hangar. A hydrant loop shall be located around the building. Supply piping will be ductile iron and the hydrant loop will be GRP with ductile iron valves and fittings. Cathodic protection will be required on all ductile iron pipe and fittings. Site work also includes an underground tank for periodic collection.

Structural Work.

The foundations are designed based on column reactions obtained from the analysis of a conceptual superstructure framing system. Since the superstructure is specified as a pre-engineered metal building system, the Contractor's engineer shall analyze the foundation design and confirm it is adequate to support final column reactions obtained from an analysis of the actual framing system provided. The foundation dimensions and reinforcing shall be increased if needed to support the column reactions of the building provided. The final dimensions of the hangar door foundations and the size, anchorage and location of the door tracks shall be varied to suit the hangar door system provided. Waterproofing is required for all underground reinforced concrete. This waterproofing shall comply with specification section 07 14 00 Fluid-Applied Waterproofing. All footings shall bear on a layer of blinding concrete and two layers of polyethylene sheeting. The hangar bay floor slab is designed as an airfield pavement.

Details of construction shall be in accordance with the pavement details in the civil drawings noted on the structural plans. Materials and installation shall be in accordance with specification Section 32 13

14.13. Since this is an interior slab that will be painted, the hangar bay floor slab shall be given a trowel finish. The hangar bay floor slab will be uniformly sloped from the wall near Grid Line M.1 downward to the hangar door track foundation near Grid Line B. The floor surface shall be transitioned to meet the required constant threshold elevations at overhead doors and personnel doors. The transition slope shall not exceed 1:20.

The hangar superstructure is performance specified as a pre-engineered metal building system. The framing systems shown on the architectural drawings are conceptual. The final structural design will be similar, but not exactly what is shown on the drawings. Careful coordination by the Contractor is required to ensure the final superstructure design accounts for loads from roof and wall mounted equipment and ancillary systems.

Supplementary steel framing and seismic bracing will be required to support these items:

Hangar door system.

Fall protection system.

HVAC ducts, louvers, dampers and equipment.

Draft curtains.

Lighting, conduits and electrical equipment.

Fire suppression system equipment and piping.

Bird netting.

The hangar superstructure shall be structurally isolated from the elevated floors and load-bearing walls constructed in Areas 'A' and 'B'. The floor penetrations where the pre-engineered metal building columns pass through the elevated floors shall be sealed with a flexible fire stopping material. The elevated floors constructed in Areas 'A' and 'B' will be supported on steel framing bearing on steel columns and load bearing

SECTION 01 11 00 Page 3 walls. All CMU walls will be fully grouted, and reinforced. Careful attention must be given to this reinforced CMU construction to ensure that the reinforcing and connections to the floor framing and floor deck complies with the contract documents.

Architectural.

Ensure the clear opening height and width are compliant with the design drawings because the opening sizes are critical to required aircraft clearances. Also ensure hangar doors are completely within the pocket at full open position (should not reduce opening size). Bird Netting - Ensure bird netting system is installed properly without sag. Ensure zippered openings are provided at each location for items that require access above the netting.

Interior Design.

All laminate products shall be high-pressure laminates; no thermos-fused laminates or melamine should be accepted. Provide half-height modesty panels at wall locations to avoid conflicts with access to wall receptacles. Coordinate power and data receptacle type and location with final plan layout and selection of powered equipment.

Mechanical / Plumbing.

The hangar bay, test cell, and dirty locker room are negatively pressurized spaces. All other spaces are positively pressurized. Verify that air balance submittals indicate all negatively pressurized spaces have exhaust airflows higher than supply airflows. In positively pressurized spaces exhaust airflows should be lower than supply airflows.

Electrical.

400 hertz cable reels are mounted in the ceiling of the hangar. The hangar structural design should incorporate the structural support needed for the reels provided. "Piller" cable reels were utilized as the basis of design and are 1127mm x 1128mm x 1016mm and weighed 255kg without the 40 meters of cable. Ensure that the contractor is aware of the requirement and incorporates the structural supports for the overhead 400 hertz cable reels. Hangar door manufacture shall incorporate control panels and push button into the hangar door design. Each control panel shall include all electronic and motor controls for the hangar door with a single connection to the enclosed duct type overhead conductor system mounted inboard of the door head track with a disconnecting means located below the single point of source at ground level. Electrical controls, limit switches and door sensors shall be accessible from ground level and access doors shall be provide for ease of maintenance for all electrical components. Verify that shop drawings indicate access doors are provided for all maintenance items including the wheel bearings. Confirm zippered access is provided in the bird netting at each light fixture, 400 hertz cable reel, antenna and camera location. Observe the electrical hazard locations shown on drawing GI009. Hangar bay is Class 1 Div. 2 rated up to 457mm above finished floor. Make sure equipment installed in hazardous locations are properly rated for the area. Contractor shall have a registered professional engineer complete a protective device coordination study and an arc flash study, and, provide all settings for the protection relays in the switchgear per requirements of SECTION 26 23 00 LOW-VOLTAGE SWITCHGEAR.

These studies must be completed based on actual contractor-provided switchgear.

SECTION 01 11 00 Page 4

Telecommunications.

Contractor will install duct bank, manhole and handholes. Communication cabling is provided by US Communication Squadron. Secure communications installed in the Office (118). The contractor shall provide the wall cabinet, however, see the specifications regarding installation of secure network raceways and cabling. Grounding and bonding of the communications infrastructure is critical. Observe during construction to confirm proper grounding and bonding is installed.

Fire Protection / Life Safety.

To comply with UFC 3-600-01 requirements, ensure that MED's (or contractor's) FPE is on site to witness preliminary and final acceptance testing for all fire protection systems.

1.2.2 Location
