Site ST012, Vance AFB Site ID: Paint Stripping Equalization Tank Description: UST Background: Concrete vault to separate sludge and liquid during paint stripping operations. Original remedy was groundwater extraction for pump and treat.

Remedy Listed in Permit: In 2014 the remedy was changed to EVO to create conditions conducive to ERD and to reduce contaminant mass and SVE. Included in the remedy was a flow through biobarrier to treat the downgradient portions of the plume Impacted Media: Soil/Groundwater COCs: VOCs LUCs: No digging w/o permission from RPM Air Force Performance Objective: RC PFOS/PFOA: None

Site SS024, Vance AFB Site ID: Jet Engine Cleaning Shop Description: Transfers from vats inside the building by underground piping to a manhole outside was the source for contamination due to overflows of the manhole. Original remedy was groundwater extraction with air stripping and hydraulic containment.

Remedy Listed in Permit: In 2014, the PBR changed the remedy to EVO injections to create conditions conducive to ERD and to reduce contaminant mass. Included in the remedy was a flow through biobarrier to treat the downgradient portions of the plume. The existing groundwater extraction system was modified to an SVE system used to control methane concentrations.

Impacted Media: Soil and Groundwater COCs: VOCs and 1,4-Dioxane LUCs: No digging without RPM permission Air Force Performance Objective: RC

Site WP023, Vance AFB Site ID: Industrial Waste Pit Description: Past investigations found evidence of an impoundment 10x20 feet downgradient from Site ST012. It was believed to be abandoned in 1967 and subsequently covered with soil and grass in the early to mid 1970s. Multiple investigations at the site found the contamination to not be from historical activities at the site. All monitoring wells at this site are now associated with the site where they originated. Three wells originated at Site ST012 and one well originated at SS025 Impacted Media: Soil and Groundwater LUCS: No digging without RPM permission Air Force Performance Objective: RC

Site SS025, Vance AFB Site ID: COMBS Warehouse Description: Site SS025 was an outside washrack near the COMBS warehouse. It was suspected that the drain was used to dispose of solvents or spills that occurred in the area. The original remedy for the site was groundwater extraction and treatment at the Central Groundwater Treatment Facility.

Remedy Listed in Permit: In 2014 the remedy was changed to EVO injections to create conditions conducive to ERD and to reduce contaminant mass. Included in the remedy was a flow through biobarrier to treat the downgradient portions of the plume. The existing groundwater extraction system was modified to a SVE system used to control possible methane emissions. However, the SVE system was discontinued in 2016 due to low methane concentrations.

Impacted Media: Soil and Groundwater COCs: VOCs, 1, 4-Dioxane LUCs: No digging without RPM permission Air Force Performance Objective: RC

Site SS028, Vance AFB Site ID: Intermediate Zone Solvent Spill Site Description: SS028 was created as a result of the 2013 Predesign Investigation. Chlorinated volatile organic compounds were found in the intermediate zone at a Site ST008 monitoring well. Concentrations increased hydraulically upgradient. This was an unknown source not related to Site ST008. An RFI was conducted in 2018. However, a Supplemental RFI is now required to determine nature and extent. Additional monitoring wells and or borings may be required with a possible permit modification.

Remedy Listed in Permit: To be determined Impacted Media: Soil and Groundwater COCs: To be determined LUCs: No digging without RPM permission Air Force Performance Objective: RIP

Include photographs showing the site and any specific/unique characteristics (inside vaults, inside control rooms/panels, etc.). Can be multiple slides. Suggest showing landfills from all sides (definitely multiple pics).

Site ST008, Vance AFB Site ID: UST No. 106 at Building 110 Description: Former Underground Storage Tank Background: Original IRP Site for a mixed waste tank. Original remedy was pump and treat.

Impacted Media: Soil/Groundwater COCs: VOCs, TPH Remedy listed in permit: Dual Phase Extraction LUCs: Penetration of concrete cap requires approval from DEQ Air Force Performance Objective: RC

Make the background very brief. Overflow to multiple slides as needed.

Site ST011, Vance AFB Site ID: Former Aqua/Avgas Fuel Distribution System Description: The system consisted of 10 underground fuel tanks which were closed/removed in July 1990. The site was not listed on the original RCRA Post Closure Permit. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission had jurisdiction and they closed the site at a later date.

Remedy Listed in Permit: During a 2013 Predesign Investigation for nearby Site LF003, Benzene contamination was found. It was determined to not be from historical activities at the site. Benzene was assumed to have come from ST011 which was upgradient at that time. ST011 was reopened in 2016 and is now included in the RCRA Post Closure Permit. An RFI was conducted in 2018. However a Supplemental RFI is now required to determine nature and extent. Additional monitoring wells and or borings may be required with a possible permit modification.

Remedy listed in permit: To be determined Impacted Media: Soil and Groundwater COCs: To be determined LUCs: No digging without RPM permission Air Force Performance Objective: RIP

Site SS026, Vance AFB Site ID: Jet Fuel Storage Area Description: Contamination was discovered when it was learned that there were past practices of draining fuel and water from aboveground storage tank dikes onto the grass/ground. Original remedy removed contaminated soil and installed Oxygen Releasing Compound (ORC) in the monitoring wells. Also, a phytoremediation system was installed but was removed in 2017.

Remedy listed in permit: Air sparging at the site to enhance MNA Impacted Media: Soil and Groundwater COCs: VOCs, GRO LUCs: No digging without RPM permission Air Force Performance Objective: SC

Site LF003, Vance AFB Site ID: Tank Farm Landfill Description: Typical trench/fill landfill 15 feet deep Background: Three acres used from 1941 until 1952 for general refuse, containerized liquids and tank sludge. Free-product (gasoline) was found in 1997 and a recovery system was installed. Due to lack of volume, it was never turned on. During a 2013 Predesign Investigation, Benzene contamination was determined to not be from historical activities at the site and would be addressed under Site ST011.

Remedy listed by the permit: Compliance monitoring Impacted media; Soil and Groundwater COCs: BTEX, Arsenic, Lead LUCs: No digging without RPM permission Air Force Performance Objective: RIP

Site SS007, Vance AFB Site ID: Hazardous Waste Accumulation Point Description: Site consists of three different areas. The first area was used by DRMO for temporary storage of hazardous waste drums. The second area is the former BCE storage area where drums of new solvent were available for use. Third area or North Site SS007 was used for private agricultural purposes until the area was deeded to Vance. It was later discovered that that solvents had leaked from the first/second areas onto North Site 7. Interceptor collection trenches were installed downgradient from the first and second areas and later on North Site 7. A Central Groundwater Treatment Facility was constructed.

Remedy listed by the permit: In 2014 the remedy for SS007 was changed to EVO injections to create conditions conducive to ERD and to reduce contaminant mass in areas of elevated concentrations of COCs in the shallow zone. The existing groundwater extraction system as modified to a groundwater recirculation system where extracted groundwater is treated using GAC amended with lactate and reinjected upgradient and sidegradient of the plume to dispense the carbon source throughout the plume. As a result the groundwater extraction treatment system and ICT extraction wells in the southern portion of the site were turned off. The ICT extraction wells on the northern portion of the site remain operational. North Site SS007 requires mowing to BASH standards.

Impacted Media: Soil and Groundwater COCs: VOCs, Arsenic, Lead LUCs: No digging without RPM permission Air Force Performance Objective: RC
