About this file
This is a technical specification section for a 15kV Switchgear Upgrade project at Fort Peck Dam in Montana, focusing on basic electrical materials and methods. The document details requirements for installing new electrical equipment including 15kV switchgear, reactors, cable bus systems, disconnect switches, potential transformers, protective relays, and associated components. Key technical specifications include using seamless aluminum tubular bus conductors, outdoor-rated station post insulators with 110kV BIL rating, SEL microprocessor-based protective relays, and specific welding and installation requirements for bus systems.
The specification covers comprehensive requirements for equipment procurement, installation, testing, and documentation. Critical aspects include submitting detailed shop drawings, equipment replacement and cutover plans, pre- and post-work testing of existing medium-voltage cables, seismic design calculations, electrical clearances, and field acceptance testing. The project involves upgrading electrical infrastructure with new components designed to meet IEEE standards, with particular attention to welding procedures, vibration dampening, and ensuring minimal operational disruption during the switchgear replacement process.
