RFI # Question Response

Blast resistant doors. The door schedule on A601, A602 and A603 indicate that we should see Dwg SA-001 for Blast Door Loading. Dwg SA001 has a table entitled

"Blast Pressure for Door and Windows Impulses". The table list two window types, but no door types. What is the intent of the table with regard to the doors?

W designations (W1, W2) are wall designations. Blast pressures indicated in the table on sheet SA001 shall apply to all windows and doors at each corresponding wall. Refer to AT/FP plans on sheets SA101 thru SA103.

There is no other reference to blast loading on the doors anywhere on SA-001. What loads are to be applied to the doors?

See RFI answer #6

Painting of room 323, Existing gymnasium ceiling, Page AF-603

Plans read: Ceiling, Conc (E), PT-15.

Existing ceiling is corrugated metal with metal framing and supports. Please clarify color (s) for corrugated metal and metal framing and supports.

See AM-0003, Sheet AF603

The Hazardous Drawings state that all 3 floors Gypsum Wall Board is asbestos containing compound skim coat. Please verify that it is the intent of the bid that all interior walls on all floors should be treated as Asbestos Containing Materials?

All interior gypsum walls on floors containing skim coat shalll be treated as asbestos containing materials.

The Hazardous Drawing show that the First floor has asbestos containing floor tile and mastic throughout the first floor. But, the Second and Third Floors show no asbestos flooring or mastic? Is this correct?

Asbestos floor tiles and mastic are also located throughout in the 2nd and 3rd floors. Refer to AM-0003 added sheeets H105, H106, H109 and H110.

At the project walk the flooring looks to be homogeneous. Please confirm that the only asbestos floor tile and mastic is on the first floor only?

See RFI answer #10

12 Is the entire building will be shutdown during construction? Yes.

According to specification section 23 09.13 20 page 12 BACnet Direct Digital Control systems that the mechanical contractor needs to remove existing EMS system and provide new BACnet and merge with existing BACnet DDC systems. What is the existing Energy Management Control system for the entire building?

Contractor installed ASHRAE 135 BACnet compliant must merge with existing

Johnson Controls, BACnet DDC systems in Building 451 per specification section

23 09 23.13 20, para 1.3. Fiber optic cabling required from B155 to existing central utilities plant in accordance with contract drawings Sheet M-604.

Sheet MH501 shows VAV boxes are connected to window switches. Please provide the number of operable windows.

Window switches are not required for this installation.

Section 00 73 00, Appendix G, Requests for Information (RFIs) - 1

Sheet MH504 shows POC domestic HW supply and return are also used as a reheat coil for the air conditioning equipments. Normally, reheat water systems have chemicals added to reduce the fouling factor of the reheat coils. Furthermore, there would be a possible contamination of the domestic water system if there will be a future repair in the AC reheat system. Should the reheat system connected to the air conditioning equipments have a separate source such as a heat exchanger and circulating pump?

Install domestic hot water supply and return connections to reheat coils as shown on contract drawings. Protect the domestic water system in accordance with all applicable criteria in specification section 22 00 00. Refer to schedules Sheet M-

601 for additional reheat coil requirements.

Moreover, is the temperature going to the reheat coils 120 degrees F per plumbing plans?

Reheat coil temperature is domestic hot water temperature as shown on contract drawings Sheet PP502, 120°F.

Please verify if the extent of the responsibility of the plumbing contractor and the mechanical contractor shall be only to what is drawn in their respective plans.

Contractor must provide condensate drains as shown on contract drawings and specifications Sections 22 00 00 and 23 00 00.

Condensate drains are both mentioned in the mechanical and plumbing plans.

Please verify who is responsible for the said system.

See RFI answer #17

19 Moreover, please provide condensate drain layout for the entire project. See RFI answer #17

Sheet MH 507 Detail A1: Could seismic cabling be used in lieu of Earthquake Sway

22 Could a smaller angle be used in lieu of the 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle? See RFI answer #20

Sheet MH507 Detail A1: Could hanger strap be used in lieu of hangers shown on detail.

See RFI answer #20

Section 00 73 00, Appendix G, Requests for Information (RFIs) - 2

Sheet MH507 Detail A4: Could we follow the standard SMACNA standards for the

Ductwork hangers in lieu of the support shown?

See RFI answer #20

Specifications Section 23 00 00 Page 14: 2.9.1 Metal ductwork: Ductwork to include galvanized steel only?

Contractor must provide metal ductwork in accordance with specification section

23 00 00, 2.9.1 Metal Ductwork.

At the site visit, it was noted that a few existing palm trees along Waianae Avenue may need to be removed. Is this part of the scope and has Environmental been involved with the discussion regarding tree removal?

Drawings currently do not identify any existing palm trees scheduled for demoliton.

Spec SECTION 01 35 29, 1.6.1.1 Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), states

“The Contractor Quality Control (QC) person cannot be the SSHO on this project,

1.2.5 Project Superintendent ” SECTION 01 90 00 states “The superintendent shall be assigned no other duties, unless otherwise allowed in Section 01 45 04

CONTRACTOR QUALITY CONTROL, System Manager” (paragraph 3.4.1 Personnel

Requirements CQC )….. this states “The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) (see

Section 01 35 29) must receive direction and authority from the CQC System Manager and serve as a member of the CQC staff.” Does this mean that the SSHO cannot also be the Project Superintendent?

Yes, the following positions cannot have any other project related duties:

CQCSM, Superintendent, and SSHO.

Currently there is no access to the open lanais on the rear of the building due to adjacent, ongoing construction. This area will need to be accessed for demolition removal as well as material stocking. If the current project is not completed in time, will the Project mobilization be postponed until the area is clear and the CCD be extended to cover this time?

Contractor will be provided full access to perform work around the B155 and surrounding area.

Would the option of poured-in-placed concrete walls in-lieu of the shotcrete walls be acceptable?

No exception taken to CIP walls instead of shotcrete

Spec SECTION 03 30 00 calls for concrete mix designs to have 6 percent air content.

Is this required in this instance as there is no freeze / thaw?

Air content requirements may be eliminated. See Am-0003, Section 03 30 00.

Spec SECTION 32 13 13 calls for a paver-finisher equipment for the PCC Pavements.

Is this required for such a small area of pavement replacement or is hand placing and finishing allowed?

Hand placing and finishing allowed provided finishes meet slope and specification requirements.

Section 00 73 00, Appendix G, Requests for Information (RFIs) - 3

Given the complexity of the project, along with the current bid due date falling during a holiday week, we respectfully request at least a 1 week bid extension in order to fully engage the subcontractor community, maximize the number of bidders and ensure the most competitive market pricing.

See Am-0002, SF30

Can you verify that the furred shotcrete walls require only the natural gun finish (03 37

13 par. 3.4.1) and that the trowel finish (03 37 13, 3.4.3) is required at only finished masonry walls? 3.4.1 say's to provide natural gun finish unless otherwise specified, where is it specified?

Trowel finish to be provided at all exposed concrete wall finishes.
