Instructions for Vignette I:
Standard Rotation
Type: Standard (current model is a Decisive Action Training Environment (DATE))
The standard training exercise is scripted and typically based on any combination of offense, defense, and stability operations. Standard rotations take place in a generic region with scenarios and Opposing Forces (OPFOR) threats based on the contemporary operational environment (COE). Rotational Training Unit (RTU) missions conducted during standard rotations are generally in direct alignment to the RTU’s standard Mission Essential Task List (METL) and training objectives.
Dates: D-Day (10 Jun 20xx) through Change of Mission (24 Jun 20xx)
Designed based on a 14 calendar day training period with 18 calendar days of Live Fires typically starting prior to Force on Force (FOF) and running concurrently during the fourteen (14) training days.
Unit Size: For a standard Army Brigade Combat Team (6,500 PAX)
PAX size includes RTU, OPFOR and MSC personnel.
Scenario:
Typically focus on training at brigade level and below; however, they may focus on division or higher level operations and training objectives. The variables of the Operational Environment (OE) serve as the Standard Rotational Exercise’s nucleus and concentrate on the conditions and characteristics of each variable that would significantly impact the military if deployed to that area of the world. The variables center on the political, military, economic, social, information, infrastructure, physical environment and time components of an OE also known by the acronym PMESII-PT. In the current Standard Rotational Exercise, the variables are operationalized to the countries identified in the decisive action training and environment manual portrayed in the Caucasus region; however, they may include other regional areas as required by the Government.
