Question and Answers Round #3 Meltable Fuze Plug W15QKN-17-R-0004
Question 1: QAP13058585 Major Characteristics for the Washer, Corrugated uses loose, interpretative terms like “Underside Surface”, “Top Surface”, “Basic Diameter”, “First Fold” and “Inner Fold”. These feature descriptions are ambiguous and not clearly identified on the prints. Can these descriptive terms be clarified on the Washer, Corrugated drawing 13058587 Rev - and be added to the print?
Response: For clarity, the following major characteristics for the washer have been listed with the corresponding dimensions.
101 Length from top surface to depth of inner fold, .260+/-.020 102 Length from underside surface to basic diameter, .132 +/-.020 103 Length from top surface to outer edge, .256+/-.020 104 Overall diameter, 3.750+/-.020 105 Underside diameter to first fold, 2.440+.020/-.000
Question 2: It is assumed that resin specified on drawing 13051831, Ionomer, Nylon Modified is suitably formulated so that when Fuze Plug is molded and subsequently force tested, the product passes the test. Has the Government completed any testing or qualification of the resin to assure its suitability for this application?
Response: The resin was used in legacy parts with the same geometry found in the handle, however, a weld line was present in the handle. The legacy parts passed pull testing despite the presence of the weld line.
Question 3: Flatness callout zone B5, 0.020” – Does this apply to the entire top surface or just the inner hub section of the washer?
Response: The flatness callout zone B5, 0.020” applies to the entire top surface.
Question 4: For dimensions not specified for inspection by the QAP, what is the government expectation for frequency of inspection beyond the FAT?
Response: For dimensions on the drawing but not in the QAP, there is no expectation of inspection of those features beyond the FAT. The contractor must meet the drawing requirements, but are not required to inspect those features per the QAP. During FAT, the government reserves the right to inspect any feature of the part, regardless of its classification (or non-classification) in the QAP.
Question 5: Will any deviation be allowed on the 2 angular callouts (11.44* +.50* / -.00*; 44.3* ± 5*) if all other physical dimensions are in tolerance? These items are not listed on the QAP as major or minor dimensions, so assuming they are not critical to the part function. Question arises since these are the most tightly controlled dimensions on the drawing.
Response: The requirements for the 2 angular callouts (11.44* +.50* / -.00*; 44.3* ± 5*) shall be maintained.
Question 6. QAP 13058585, Part III, c. Washer, Corrugated:
Does 102 refer to zone B2, 0.132” +/- 0.020” dimension?
Does 105 refer to zone C3, 0.087” +/- 0.010” dimension?
Response: Please see question 1 above for answers.
