671 – Roof Snow Guards, Stainless Metal

Description

671.01 This work consists of providing and installing stainless steel metal roof snow guards colored brown on an existing single story building metal roof.

Materials

671.02 General. Provide materials that are equal to SnowCatcher design.

671.03 Roof Snow Guards, Stainless Metal. Metallic roof snow guards shall be manufactured of 16-gauge SAE 304 stainless steel sheet conforming to ASTM A276. The snow guard will be manufactured from a single cut out. The face will be rectangular in shape with approximate dimensions of 2½” x 4”. The base will be approximately 1½” x 2½” with two or three holes for screw mounting.

671.04 Color Coating. Brown or bronze powder coated to closely match Federal standard color 20059.

671.05 Hardware. A PVC foam sealer base pad will be provided with each snow guard. Mounting hardware will be 1½” long galvanized wood purlin screws, colored to match the snow guard, with neoprene gaskets.

Construction Requirements

671.06 General. Visually inspect the existing roof for defects that could affect the performance of the snow guards and notify the CO of findings.

Install snow guards in accordance with the plans. Two snow guards will be mounted between each metal roof rib and staggered 12” along the roof incline. Lines of snow guards will be installed in a uniform straight line and spacing with faces along the same plane. Mark each location with a pencil or non-permanent marker before drilling holes to verify snow guard locations.

Clean the roof installation locations with a damp cloth to remove debris, dirt, and dust to ensure a uniform watertight seal. Place the snow guard with the vertical face facing up the roof incline and the mounting base on the lower side. Predrill screw holes in the metal roof to match the snow guard mounting base that are about 1/16” larger diameter than the screw shaft. Place the PVC foam sealer pad between the metal roof and snow guard. Fasten each snow guard with purlin wood screws with neoprene gaskets. Install screws so that the screw head firmly engages the snow guard without over compressing the neoprene washer. Adjust screw tightness as needed. Install screws perpendicular to the roof plane so that the neoprene washer and screw head make uniform contact with the snow guard. Back out and reinstall screws that are crooked and do not provide a watertight seal.

671.07 Tolerance. Installation tolerance is +/- 1/4” in any direction.

671.08 Repairs. Do not remove incorrectly installed snow guards without first contacting the CO to discuss remedies. Do not cover over open screw holes or other metal roof defects without discussing remedies to seal openings.

Fill holes installed in the incorrect locations with an exterior metal roof non-shrinking and non-hardening clear adhesive sealant, so they are watertight. Clean the area with rubbing alcohol. Apply sealant to extend a minimum of 3/4” from the edge of the hole and depth of 1/4” to 3/8”.

671.09 Cleanup. Remove related construction debris upon completion. Pick up all dropped screws and materials off the roof and ground using a strong magnet.

Measurement

671.10 Measure Roof Snow Guards, Stainless Metal pay item by the lump sum.

Payment

671.11 The accepted quantity will be paid at the contract price per unit of measurement for Roof Snow Guards, Stainless Metal. Payment will be full compensation for the work prescribed in this Section.

Test the circuits in the Chalet building to determine which breakers control the exterior light designated in the plans for removal, the service to the ATV wash building (shipping container), and other electrical features. Document which other site electrical features are controlled by breaker switches and verify that they will be properly labeled after the work is completed. Turn off power to the breaker box as needed.

Disconnect the wires of the features to be removed and remove the breaker switches. Disconnect and remove the conduit from the panel box. Install knockout seals over the breaker switch holes and conduit holes in the panel box. Relabel the breaker box list as needed.
