About this file
This is a technical specification document for heating systems at Sembach Army Base in Germany, detailing equipment and infrastructure for two primary heat plants serving administrative and military family housing areas.
Building 208 (Admin Area) Heat Plant, constructed in 2003, features three Buderus Logano S8154 250 LN boilers with 4,250 kW capacity each, fired by light oil or natural gas via Elco Kloeckner burners. The system includes three boiler feed pumps, a 27-meter high brick masonry chimney with three stainless steel flues (60 cm diameter), two double-wall fuel oil tanks totaling 360,000 liters capacity, three exhaust heat exchangers, nine circulation pumps (heating and exhaust), three 1,000-liter expansion vessels, a water treatment system, CO2 and flue gas control units, a central PC-based heat control system, leak detection, and fuel gauging systems. The heat plant distributes to approximately 50 heat exchangers (50-250 kW each) across various administrative buildings via underground distribution pipes, each equipped with circulation pumps and heat metering devices.
Building 61 (Military Family Housing Area) Heat Plant, constructed in 1986, comprises three boilers with capacities of 2,000 kW, 4,500 kW, and 7,000 kW respectively, manufactured by Omnical in 1985, operating at maximum 120°C and 600 kPa with light oil or natural gas firing. Equipment includes a twin-type oil pump station, three KSB Etatherm-M boiler feed pumps, three stainless steel flues (30 cm diameter, 30 m high), a 100,000-liter underground double-wall fuel oil storage tank, a twin-type water softening system, two shell-in-tube heat exchangers (1,200 and 1,500 kW), six hot water circulation pumps with automatic controls, ventilation units, and HCS automatic boiler controls with remote monitoring. The system supplies district heating at 90/70°C to eight primary heat exchangers serving 28 military family housing buildings and one elementary school through primary and secondary underground distribution lines.
