About this file

This document is the Appendix H from TC 25-8 which outlines the requirements for a Multipurpose Training Range (MPTR) and Digital Multipurpose Training Range. The range complex is designed to train and qualify crews, teams, and sections of armor, infantry, and aviation units on the skills necessary to detect, identify, engage, and defeat stationary and moving infantry and armor targets in a tactical array. The complex supports dismounted infantry tactical live fire operations and includes a convoy live fire route. All targets are fully automated and the captured data is available for after-action review.

The related state and local contract opportunity is for the design of this Multipurpose Training Range, which will be located in the state of Florida, specifically in St. Johns County and the City of St. Petersburg. The request is for design qualifications, and the project is titled "Project 120342 Multipurpose Training Range Design".

Multipurpose Training Range/Digital Multipurpose Training Range

H-27. This range complex is specifically designed for training and qualification requirements of crews, teams, and sections of armor, infantry, aviation units on the skills necessary to detect, identify, engage, and defeat stationary and moving infantry and armor targets in a tactical array.

This complex supports dismounted infantry tactical live fire operations independently of, or simultaneously with supporting vehicles. A convoy live fire route can include the use of crossover roads. All targets are fully automated, with event specific target scenarios that are computer driven from the range control tower. When properly equipped and manned, this range can replicate a complex operational environment better enabling units to train MDO.

H-28. Targets will receive digital data from and transmit digital data to the instrumented range control tower. The captured data is then compiled and available to the unit during the after-action review.

H-29. Figures H-11 through H-11.3 on pages H-52 through H-54 define the range requirements, footprint, targetry, associated structures, and generalized range sketch. The following figures define the requirements for both an Automated MPTR and Digital MPTR.

Scout/Recce Gunnery Complex

H-30. This complex is used to train and test scout reconnaissance crews and sections on the skills necessary to detect, identify, engage, and defeat stationary and moving infantry and armor targets in a tactical array. In addition to the vehicle qualification course, there are four machinegun qualification lanes. These lanes are used to train and test Soldiers on the skills necessary to zero, detect, identify, engage and defeat stationary infantry targets, and stationary armor targets in a tactical array with machineguns organic to a scout platoon or company/troop. All targets are fully automated, using event-specific and computer-driven target scenarios and scoring system from the range control tower.

H-31. Figures H-12 through H-12.2 on pages H-55 through H-56 define the range requirements, footprint, targetry, associated structures, and generalized range sketch.
