About this file

This is a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for CHEMGUARD 3% AFFF (aqueous film-forming foam), a fire extinguishing agent manufactured by Tyco Fire Protection Products. The product, identified by code 770810, is classified as hazardous under the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard and carries a "Danger" signal word due to its potential to cause serious eye damage, allergic skin reactions, and suspected reproductive toxicity. The SDS, revised November 22, 2023, provides comprehensive information on the product's composition, hazards, handling requirements, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions including the United States, Canada, and international inventories.

The product is formulated as a mixture containing 2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethanol (10-20%), Laurylamidopropyl betaine (1-5%), Caprylcaprilyl glucoside (1-5%), Polyfluorinated alkyl polyamide (1-5%), Octylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol (1-5%), 2-Methyl-2,4-pentanediol (0.1-1%), and fluorinated compounds, with a liquid density of 1.02 and VOC content of 18.7575. Critical safety measures include use of personal protective equipment (chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, respirators), proper ventilation, eye wash and shower facilities, and immediate medical attention for exposure. The product is listed under California Proposition 65 for developmental and reproductive toxicity and is subject to state right-to-know regulations in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. Disposal must comply with local environmental regulations, and the product is marked as "OBSOLETE," indicating it may be relevant to organizations transitioning from AFFF-based systems, such as the Lee County Port Authority's initiative to replace ARFF foam systems with synthetic fluorine-free alternatives.
