Summary of Provisions for Preservation of the West Indian Manatee

This document outlines environmental protection provisions applicable to the Collier County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) Marco Substation Floating Dock project in Marco Island, Florida. The file establishes regulatory requirements and guidelines for protecting the West Indian manatee, an endangered species, during the construction and operation of the floating dock facility. The provisions detail specific measures contractors must implement to prevent harm to manatees and their habitat throughout the project duration. These requirements mandate compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, including restrictions on construction activities in designated manatee zones, speed limitations for vessel operations, and protocols for reporting manatee sightings or injuries. The project team must adhere to all specified protective measures from project initiation through completion and ongoing facility operations.

The provisions establish operational standards that contractors and facility users must follow to minimize environmental impact on manatee populations in the Marco Island area. Key requirements include equipment modifications, habitat protection zones, and mandatory training for personnel regarding manatee safety protocols. The document serves as a binding environmental compliance framework that supersedes standard construction practices where manatee protection measures are more stringent. Failure to comply with these provisions may result in project delays, penalties, or contract termination. All bidders responding to Bid No. 25-8575 must acknowledge understanding of and commitment to these manatee protection requirements as a condition of contract award.
