About this file

This performance work statement outlines spill cleanup procedures for various hazardous materials that may be encountered during grounds maintenance services at U.S. government installations on Marine Corps Base Butler in Okinawa, Japan. It provides detailed steps for safely containing and cleaning small spills of chemicals including antifreeze, battery acid, solvents, paints, pesticides, acids, and bases. Personnel are instructed to call emergency services for large spills, spills of unknown substances, or situations involving fire, injuries or dangerous fumes. Contact information is given for environmental offices and points of contact at each installation. Required personal protective equipment is specified based on the chemical Safety Data Sheet. All contaminated materials must be properly disposed of as hazardous waste. This document establishes standard operating procedures to ensure spills are remediated in an environmentally compliant manner during the course of grounds maintenance work at Marine Corps installations in Okinawa, Japan.
