About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding a solicitation for Gun Weapon System components. The solicitation seeks proposals for the manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and delivery of components for ammunition handling systems, gun mounts, trainable gun mounts, integration kits, maintenance kits, gunner protection kits, and future upgraded assemblies. Eligible offerors must demonstrate the in-house capability to fabricate and assemble sheet metal parts, though this is not anticipated to constitute the majority of the work. Acceptable materials for one component include ASTM A1011 CSB sheet. The incumbent contractors are Astro Machine Works and Merrill Aviation, Inc. under contracts N00178-17-D-0024 and N00178-17-D-0025 respectively.

Questions and Answers

Q6. Under Section L.2.2 Volume II: Technical Proposal, Section B: Technical Capability/Facilities (page 73 of 81) it states “This Element also addresses the Offeror’s overall resources and compares the ratio of in-house capabilities compared to Sub-Contractor or supplier resources to determine if the Offeror is capable of fabricating and assembling the majority of sheet metal parts in-house.” Do you anticipate most of the work under this contract to be fabricating and assembling sheet metal parts?

A6. Fabricating and assembling sheet metal parts are not anticipated to be the majority of the work under this requirement, however it is an important component of the work.

Q7. Regarding drawing SK101949, note 2, material callout. We do not believe A1018 is the appropriate sheet callout for this part. This part states to be made from sheet that is .094” thick. ASTM A1018 appears to cover sheet with a minimum thickness of .230” per section 1.3 of the standard. Per section 1.1 of the standard, ASTM A1011 would appear to be the correct specification for the material callout for this part number. We would like confirmation that A1011 CSB is an appropriate material to produce this part from.

A7. PLEASE NOTE that the Manufacturing Sample instruction is provided only to those Offerors that successfully complete the Solicitation instructions at L.2.2.1.A.

Yes, ASTM A1011 CSB is acceptable.”
