Parts and Service availability – what does a spot on the map really mean?
Note from Section L: The Navy relies on existing, worldwide commercial support infrastructure for major equipment support outside of organic capability. Since the PB-X program is phased over 15 years, in small increments (4-8 boats per year) we are interested in knowing how major equipment selection will/can be supported by existing parts/service networks. This is especially pertinent since our initial low population density will not be sufficient to drive either the Navy supply system or a vendor system for ‘unique’ support.
