About this file

This document contains testing procedures for a pre-check test stand. It outlines various leak tests to be performed on the test stand, including connecting various pressure regulators, gauges, valves and adapters to conduct a cold air poppet functional test and supply and external port leakage test. Thresholds are provided for acceptable leakage measurements. The document also specifies procedures for disassembly and reassembly if components require adjustment, as well as troubleshooting steps to address potential malfunctions.

The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the United States Marine Corps seeking a pre-check test stand as described in the testing documentation. No further details are provided on response dates, pricing terms, set-asides or other solicitation elements.

29. Supply and External Port Leakage Test.

a. Connect pressure regulator (12, figure 6), shutoff valve (8), and pressure gauge (9) to cold air inlet using adapter (19). Connect cold air measuring section with shutoff valves (6 and 7) around shutoff valve (8).

b. Connect pressure. regulator (5) and pressure gauge (13) to warm air inlet using adapter (21).

NOTE

Ensure shutoff valve (11) is closed for the following test. If shutoff valve (11) cannot be completely closed, modify test setup for this test only, by capping the mixed outlet port downstream of pressure gauge (10).

c. Adjust pressure regulator (5) to obtain 93 to 97 psig indicated on pressure gauge (13).

d. Open shutoff valve (8). Adjust pressure regulator (12) to obtain 162 to 172 psig indicated on pressure gauge (9). Open shutoff valves (6 and 7) and slowly close shutoff valve (8).

e. Measure the external leakage indicated at the cold air measuring section. Record external leakage as reading B. Mixed outlet pressure gauge (10) shall not exceed 88 to 92 psig. (QA)

f. Open shutoff valve (16) and adjust pressure regulator (1) to obtain 14 to 16 psig indicated on pressure gauge (2). Open shutoff valves (15 and

17) and slowly close shutoff valve (16). Adjust current to 100 to 108 milliamperes to electro-magnetic control valve (14).

g. Measure port leakage indicated at supply port leakage measuring section. Record as reading C.

h. Add recorded readings A, B, and C. Total external leakage shall not exceed 0.40 lb/min. (QA)

i. Adjust pressure regulators (1, 5, and 12) to reduce pressure to zero psig on pressure gauges (2, 9, and 13). Close all shutoff valves (6, 7, 15, and 17). Reduce current to zero milliamperes on the electro-magnetic control valve (14).

j. Disconnect air supply source, pressure regulators (1, 5, and 12), shutoff valves (4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 15, 16, and 17), pressure gauges (2, 3, 9, 10, and 13), adapters (19, 20, 21, and 22), and electrical cable.

30. FINAL TESTING.

a. If the number of washers (45, figure 10) is adjusted during TESTING AND TROUBLESHOOTING, perform the following:

(1) Remove cover assembly (31), screws (38), washers (36, 37, and 39), and nuts (35) from valve body (50).

ADHESIVE SEALANT 1

RTV-3145 (GRAY)

(2) Apply a thin, even coat of adhesive to diaphragm (42) mating surfaces of valve body (50).

(3) Reinstall cover assembly (31) to valve body (50) with the vent port oriented as shown in figure 10 while still wet.

(4) Install nuts (35), washers (36, 37, and 39), and screws (38).

(5) Torque screws (38) 10.5 to 11.5 in-lbs above run-on torque.

b. Perform Cold Air Poppet Functional Test and Supply and External Port Leakage Test.

31. TROUBLESHOOTING.

NOTE

The following troubleshooting procedures relate to malfunctions found during testing of the valve. When reference is made to inspect a particular part, refer to INSPECTION, DISASSEMBLY or ASSEMBLY paragraphs. If troubleshooting procedures necessitate any disassembly, removal, or replacement of valve components, all testing and adjustment procedures shall be performed before returning the valve to service.

a. If unable to meet the requirements for the insulation resistance and dielectric tests, replace electro-magnetic control valve (1, figure 10).
