About this file

This document provides testing procedures and requirements for a valve and actuator assembly. Key details include: testing procedures for insulation breakdown, operation, internal and external leakage rates, and dimensional tolerances. Tests will evaluate proper operation of auxiliary switches and indicators under various pressure conditions. The assembly must open and close within 8-2 seconds across temperature ranges of 60-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Internal and external leakage rates cannot exceed 0.2 pounds per minute and 0.02 pounds per minute, respectively. Successful components will be tagged as tested and certified for use.

The related solicitation seeks a pre-check test stand to evaluate the valve and actuator assembly against the requirements documented in the testing procedures. The United States Marine Corps is listed as the issuing agency.

a. Apply 600 volts ac, 60 cps for 1 second between all pins and case. There shall be no insulation breakdown.

b. Connect electrical test harness to valve.

Connect power leads to dc power outlet on test panel.

Connect timer leads to timer. Adjust power supply to 26 volts dc.

c. Install test adapters on valve body and connect air test bench pressure supply to the INLET port.

d. Apply power to pin A; valve must be full open when actuator stops. If valve is not full open, adjust the OPEN screw (21, Figure 8, WP 004 00). Tighten nut

(22) after each adjustment.

COMPRESSED AIR 3

e. Apply 139 psig air pressure and close valve by applying power to pin B. Adjust the CLOSE screw (21, Figure 8, WP 004 00) until a minimum of air leakage is attained. Tighten nut (22) and recheck adjustment. Relieve pressure.

f. Close and open the valve. The valve shall open to from full OPEN to full CLOSED and/or from full CLOSED to full OPEN position in 8 2 seconds. Current drain during operation shall not exceed 0.5 ampere.

g. Operate the valve from the OPEN toward the CLOSED position until auxiliary switch 51 (see Figure 2) closes, causing lamp L3 to light. Auxiliary switch 51 shall close when valve butterfly is 2 to 5 from full CLOSED position.

h. With the valve in full OPEN position, lamp L4 shall be lit. Operate the valve toward the closed position until auxiliary switch S2 opens, causing lamp L4 to go out. Auxiliary switch S2 shall open when butterfly is 2 to 5 from full CLOSED position.

Note The 2 to 5 angle specified refers to valve butterfly position and not the indicator pointer. Pointer travel is twice butterfly travel.

i. If necessary adjust cams (5 and 6, Figure 9, WP 004 00) to obtain correct auxiliary switch operation. Adjust pointer (3, Figure 8, WP 004 00) to correct indicating position on cover (6).

j. With the valve OPEN and the OUTLET port capped, apply 300 psi air pressure to the INLET port for 5 minutes. There shall be no permanent distortion or set.

Relieve pressure.

k. Internal Leakage: The butterfly should be in the CLOSED position. Apparatus should be connected in the following order; high pressure source connected to INLET port of valve, OUTLET port of valve connected to flowmeter. Apply 139 psig and record flow rate of leakage past the butterfly. Leakage shall not exceed 0.2 pound per minute (PPM) (2.7 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM), or 76 standard liters per minute (SLPM)) within a temperature range of 60−90 degrees Fahrenheit. Relieve pressure.

l. Reverse Internal Leakage: The butterfly should be in the CLOSED position. Apparatus should be connected in the following order; high pressure source to OUTLET port of valve, INLET port of valve connected to flow meter. Apply 139 psig and record flow rate of leakage past the butterfly. Leakage shall not exceed 0.2 PPM (2.7 SCFM or 76 SLPM) within a temperature range of 60−90 degrees Fahrenheit. Relieve pressure.

m. External Leakage: The butterfly should be in the OPEN position. Apparatus should be connected in the following order; high pressure source to flowmeter, flowmeter to INLET port of valve, OUTLET port of valve capped with blanking plate. Apply 139 psig and record flow rate. Leakage shall not exceed 0.02 PPM (0.03 SCFM or 1 SLPM). If using a Brooks flow meter indicated leakage shall not exceed 0.01 PPM (0.01 SCFM or 0.2 SLPM) within a temperature range of 60−90 degrees Fahrenheit. Relieve pressure

Note Apply pressure correction factor to indicated flow.

n. Disconnect the test circuit and remove valve and actuator assembly from test fixture. Cap ports and tag the valve as having been tested.
