About this file

This document provides test procedures for a one-inch diameter electrical air shutoff and modulating valve. It outlines various tests to evaluate the valve, including checking for case and port leakage, operating time, and troubleshooting. Tests are to be performed using a valve test console, adapter set, and other specified equipment. Case leakage should not exceed 0.10 pounds per minute and port leakage should not exceed 0.10 pounds per minute. Operating time should be within 7 to 13 seconds in both opening and closing, with a maximum operating current of 0.50 amperes and stall current of 1.0 ampere. Troubleshooting guidance is provided to address issues such as excessive leakage, binding, or actuator defects.

The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the United States Marine Corps for a pre-check test stand. No other details are provided on products, services, pricing, or terms required under the solicitation.

Materials Required

1. GENERAL.

2. Provide test setup similar to that shown in figure 1, using valve test console D39120, adapter set 281312, and adapter 284064−2−1.

3. The following test equipment shall be provided for testing this valve.

a. A source of clean, compressed air at a pressure range of 0 to 200 psig at a temperature of 5° to 49°C (41° to 120°F).

b. A means for measuring case leakage air flow from 0.0 to 0.5 pound per minute.

c. A means for measuring port leakage air flow from 0.0 to 0.5 pound per minute.

d. A means for measuring total flow from 0 to 35 pounds per minute.

e. An electrical source of 25 to 27 volts, direct current.

4. TEST PROCEDURES.

Note

Test procedures are written with all valves in test setup closed at beginning of each test.

5. With valve in full open position, check valve to determine position of disk. If disk is not streamlined within 2°, adjust open limit switch as follows:

a. Turn open limit mechanical stop screw (located directly opposite receptacle) out until possibility of linkage making contact when valve is fully open is eliminated.

b. Remove actuator cover. Energize actuator pins “A” and “C” on actuator (WP003 00, 4, figure 1) with 26+2 volts, direct current to operate valve to full-open position. Loosen open limit switch locking screw (figure 2 and adjust open limit switch to streamline disk within 2°.

c. Set open limit mechanical stop screw by turning in until it contacts linkage and then backing out one-half to one turn and tightening locking nut.

d. Install valve in test setup.

6. With valve being tested in full-open position, check case leakage as follows:

a. Open valve (2, figure 1) and adjust regulator

(1) to apply inlet air pressure of 120±2 psi, indicated on gage (3).

b. Open valves (7) and close valve (2).

Case leakage indicated at case leakage measuring section shall not exceed 0.10 pound per minute.

7. With valve being tested in closed position, check port leakage as follows:

a. Energize actuator pins “B” and “C” with 26 ± 2 VDC to operate valve to full−closed position. Open valve (2) and adjust regulator (1) to apply inlet air pressure of 120 ± 2 psi, indicated on gage (3).

b. Open valve (5) and observe port leakage at port leakage measuring section.

Port leakage shall not exceed 0.10 pound per minute.

8. If port leakage is excessive, adjust closed limit switch as follows:

a. Turn closed limit mechanical stop screw (located directly opposite motor) out until possibility of linkage making contact when valve is fully closed is eliminated.

b. Remove actuator cover, position disk in closed position, loosen closed limit switch locking screw (figure 2), and adjust closed limit switch so valve will meet port leakage requirement.

c. Set closed limit mechanical stop screw by turning in until it contacts linkage and backing out one−half to one turn. Tighten locking nut. Replace actuator cover and recheck port leakage.

9. With valve being tested in fully open position, check operating time as follows:

a. Energize actuator pins “A” and “C” with 26.0 ± 2 VDC to operate valve to full-open position. Open valve (2) and adjust regulator (1) to apply inlet air pressure of 120 ± 2 psi, indicated on gage (3).

b. Open and adjust valve (4) to flow 30 pounds per minute, indicated in airflow measuring section.

c. Energize actuator pins “B” and “C” on actuator (WP003 00, 4, figure 1) with 26.0 ± 0.5 volts, direct current to cycle disk to fully closed position. Energize pins “A” and “C” on actuator (WP003 00, 3, figure 1) with 26.0 ± 0.5 volts, direct current to cycle disk to fully open position.

Operating time shall be within the limits of 7 to 13 seconds in either direction. Operating current shall not exceed 0.50 ampere.

Maximum stall current shall nor exceed 1.0 ampere.

10. Operating time shall be within the limits of 7 to 13 seconds in either direction. Operating current shall not exceed 0.50 ampere. Maximum stall current shall nor exceed 1.0 ampere.

a. Pins “D” and “E” when disk is fully open to within 2° to 5° from fully closed.

b. Pins “A” and “F” when disk is fully open.

11. TROUBLESHOOTING.

12. Table 1 is presented for determining and correcting cause of valve malfunction during testing.
