About this file

This document outlines test procedures and requirements for a solenoid-operated valve. Key details include:

  • Proof pressure, leakage, valve operation, and power requirements tests must be conducted in the specified order and conditions. This includes applying various pressures to ports and measuring leakage, time for the valve to open and close under different voltages and temperatures, and measuring current draw.

  • For the leakage test, total leakage cannot exceed 0.40 pounds per minute under various pressures and valve positions. When open, leakage must exceed closed position by a minimum of 0.05 pounds per minute.

  • Opening time cannot exceed 1 second under normal conditions and specified voltage. Closing time also cannot exceed 1 second for certain valve models at increased temperature and voltage.

  • Steady state current cannot exceed 1.5 amps under various pressure, temperature and voltage conditions. Proper valve operation is required when inlet pressure is reduced to 0 PSI.

The related opportunity is a solicitation from the United States Marine Corps for a pre-check test stand, indicating the valve specifications may be relevant for products bid in response.

SECTION VI

TESTING

6-1. TEST PROCEDURES.

Nitrogen 9

6-2. TEST CONDITIONS. Perform all tests in the order given. Unless otherwise specified, perform tests at prevailing atmospheric conditions, using dry nitrogen (A-A-59503) or clean, dry air. For leakage and functional testing, use special test panel (21C4044G001).

6-3. PROOF-PRESSURE TEST. With the valve closed, apply 450 PSIG pressure to the inlet port for 5 minutes. There must be no damage, distortion, or failure.

6-4. LEAKAGE TEST.

a. Install the valve in a test setup like the one shown in figure 6-1. Use a gasket (131W61D08, or equivalent) between the fixture mounting pad and the valve inlet port. With the valve closed, the outlet port open, and 200 PSIG applied to the inlet port, measure the total leakage of the valve. Leakage shall not exceed 0.40 pound per minute. Repeat this test with 100 PSIG inlet pressure. Leakage shall not exceed 0.40 pound per minute. Apply 100 PSIG air pressure to the inlet port with the outlet port blocked and the valve closed. Measure the total leakage of the valve.

b. Open the valve and repeat the leakage test measurement. The total leakage measured with the valve fully open must exceed the total leakage measured with the valve closed by a minimum of 0.05 pound per minute. The total leakage past the valve flapper seats and all other passages must not exceed 0.40 pound per minute in any of the tests in this paragraph.

6-5. Valve Operation.

a. With one PSIG pressure applied to the inlet port, energize the valve with 12 VDC and measure the time required for the flapper to reach its fully open position. Opening time shall not exceed 1 second. After the valve has been energized for a minimum of 10 seconds, de-energize the valve and measure the time required for the flapper to fully close after the valve is de-energized. Repeat the closing time test with an applied voltage of 29 VDC.

Increase the ambient temperature of the valve to 149°C (300°F) and repeat the valve operation tests after 1 hour stabilization. For 4003T62P04 and 4003T62P05, closing time shall not exceed 1 second maximum.

b. For an alternate procedure, increase ambient temperature of valve to 149°C (300°F) using a hot air flow. Allow valve to stabilize for at least 10 minutes. Repeat the valve operation tests and record result.

6-6. POWER REQUIREMENTS TEST.

a. Energize the valve with 29 VDC and measure the steady state current requirements.

Total steady state current shall not exceed 1.5 amperes at 26.7°C (80°F).

b. Apply 10 PSIG to the inlet port with the valve in the closed position and outlet port open.

c. Energize the valve and measure the steady state current flow. Total steady state current shall not exceed 1.5 amperes at 26.7°C (80°F).

d. With the valve energized, slowly reduce the inlet pressure to 0 PSIG and note the
