About this file

This document is an AV System Narrative Submittal for the LoC Phase 2: Carriage Entry, CVC Entry, and Welcome Area project. It provides a technical description of the audiovisual systems and equipment required for this project, including a welcome projection, central spine lighting control, and collection slideshow displays. The document notes that it does not include information on system-wide paging or background music. It also details the requirements for the AV Intermediate Distribution Frame and remote monitoring system. Key equipment specified includes UHD laser projectors, high-end computers, and 65" UHD displays. The document indicates that the AV system will utilize off-the-shelf components and be integrated with the lighting control system. It also recommends purchasing spare AV equipment for key devices.

This AV System Narrative supports the federal contract opportunity for Exhibition Audio Visual (AV) Design Services for the Orientation Gallery at the Library of Congress. The solicitation requires a contractor with extensive experience in providing onsite production, installation, and integration of media programs, equipment, and hardware. The contractor must configure the physical needs, specify and purchase equipment, deliver and install all components, and provide commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance handoff.

Kubik Maltbie, Inc. (KMI) in partnership with Studio Joseph (SJ) and Blue Cadet (BC) is providing detailed design equipment selection to the Library of Congress (LOC) for the Audiovisual (AV) system of the Carriage Entry (CE), CVC Entry (CVC), and Welcome Area (WA). In this document KM will provide a limited technical description.

*This document does not include any information for system wide paging or background music

(BGM).

*Note, information below is based on a decentralized system.

Technical Description

CVC.AV.01 – Welcome Projection

Equipment Description

- The Welcome Projection experience features one (1) ultra-high definition (UHD) laser projector that will project video/imagery onto a section of wall prior to guest ascending the stairs. The projector will receive video signal from a local media player.

WA.AV.01 – Central Spine

Equipment Description

- The Central Spine experience features one (1) high-end computer that will interface with the lighting control system of the individual archways.

*Lighting and structural specification provided by SJ and the KM Interactive and Fabrication Departments.

Interactive Department Assumptions

- The Exhibit Fabricator/AV Integrator will develop a system with off-the-shelf components that utilizes a control box to power LED strips around seven arched doorways. Controller/control box will be local to each zone and can connect via ethernet or USB. Lighting effect will be programmed to run a sequence throughout the day. They will also custom fabricate a cover over the LED strip that fits around the doorways. KMI assumes that this will be built into the custom fit out of millwork added in the doorways.

o Arch 1 LED Length: 26’ 5” x2 (Front & Back) o Arch 2 LED Length: 26’ 5” x2 (Front & Back) o Arch 3 LED Length: 26’ 5” x2 (Front & Back) o Arch 4 LED Length: 25’ 4” x2 (Front & Back) o Arch 5 LED Length: 25’ 4” x2 (Front & Back) o Arch 6 LED Length: 25’ 4” x2 (Front & Back)

WA.AV.02 – Collector Space: Collection Slideshow

- The Collection Slideshow experience features two (2) 65” UHD displays for content viewing. The displays will receive video signal from local media players.

AV Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) – Shared Equipment

- The AV IDF will house all AV system control devices as well as any large video servers or audio processing devices.

o The equipment rack requires three (3) feet of egress on three sides (front, back, and one side) as well as climate control.

*The system administrative and control equipment is shared between the Orientation Gallery and the Carriage Entry, Congressional Crossroads, CVC Entry, and Welcome Area.

Remote Monitoring – Share Equipment

- The remote monitoring system is currently slated to utilize the Smart Monkeys’ ISSAC platform.

The exact implantation is TBD.

Recommended Spares

- KMI recommends purchasing spare AV equipment for key devices in the event of failure. The specific recommended devices and quantities are included with the associated equipment list.
