About this file

This document is an AV System Narrative Submittal for the Congressional Crossroads and Orientation Gallery project at the Library of Congress (LOC). It provides a detailed technical description of the audiovisual equipment and systems required for various exhibits and experiences within the Orientation Gallery, including an "Ask a Librarian" interactive display, film vignettes, audio remix station, art and architecture explorer, and various exhibits featuring touch screens, projectors, and audio handsets. The document outlines the specific equipment, quantities, and technical requirements for each experience, as well as assumptions for custom fabrication and integration. It also references a shared AV Intermediate Distribution Frame and remote monitoring system. The document indicates that the selected AV integrator will need to procure and hand over equipment to the media producer for content development.

The related federal contract opportunity is for Exhibition Audio Visual (AV) Design Services for the Orientation Gallery at the Library of Congress. The solicitation seeks a contractor with extensive experience in onsite production, installation, system design, prototyping, audio engineering, and integration for the various audiovisual programs and interactive experiences within the Orientation Gallery. The contractor will be responsible for determining and configuring the physical needs of each program, specifying and purchasing equipment, delivering and installing the hardware, providing commissioning and on-site support, and handing off maintenance to the Library.

AV System Narrative Submittal Date: 2024-July-23

Submittal: 100% Final Design Deliverable (Revised)

Project Title: LoC Phase 1: Congressional Crossroads and Orientation Gallery

Project AV Designer: Donald L. Sweetman, CTS-D, CTS-I

Project Overview

Kubik Maltbie, Inc. (KMI) in partnership with Studio Joseph (SJ) and Blue Cadet (BC) is providing detailed design equipment selection to the Library of Congress (LOC) for the Audiovisual (AV) system of the Congressional Crossroads and Orientation Gallery (OG). In this document KM will provide a limited technical description.

*This document does not include any information for system wide paging or background music

(BGM).

*Note, information below is based on a decentralized system.

*All media players will be connected to an IP controllable power distribution unit (PDU) in the event that the media player “freezes.” The PDU will allow for remote power cycling initializing a reboot of the device to ensure continued operation during operating hours.

*The selected AV Integrator will need to procure and handover a selection of AV equipment to the media producer for the purposes of content development. The exact equipment and quantities are detailed below.

Technical Description

OG.AV.01 – Ask a Librarian Interactive

Equipment Description

- The Ask a Librarian experience features one (1) 86” UHD touch table for guest interactivity.

Around the touch table will be six (6) audio handsets with volume control knobs for guest listening. The touch table and handsets will receive video, audio, and control signal from a local media computer.

OG.AV.03 – Thomas Jefferson Library Legacy: Film Vignettes

Equipment Description

- The Thomas Jefferson Library Case Study Vignettes experience features three (3) 27” HD touchscreens and speakers for guest content activation and listening. The displays and speakers will receive signals from local media players.

OG.AV.04 – Audio Remix

Equipment Description

- The Audio Remix experience will feature three (3) UHD laser projectors that will project video/imagery that will work with a custom-built mixing pad that will give guests the ability to manipulate content. The experience is supported with full-range speakers. The projectors and speakers will receive signals from local high-end media computers.

Interactive Department Assumptions

- The AV integrator will procure or develop and prototype a DJ style mixer pad with sixteen rubberized buttons that illuminate via LED lighting from below the buttons. The pad will send user input information to the PC via MIDI protocol. The AV Integrator will build a custom fixture panel that will hold the lighting and button assemble and integrate into the final kiosk unit. The AV Integrator should assume the control box will be integrated into the kiosk or under the kiosk main touch surface. The AV Integrator should assume communication with the lighting will be via Art-net communication from the media supplier.

OG.AV.05 – Art + Architecture Explorer

Equipment Description

- The Art + Architecture Explorer experiences features one (1) UHD laser projector that will project video/imagery onto a section of wall and one (1) touchscreen for content distribution and interaction. The projector and touchscreen will receive video and control signal from a local high-end media computer.
