Prior to sampling, a pre-sampling site visit was conducted on December 13, 2002.
The visit offered the opportunity to review building composition to develop a sampling strategy. The building survey team completed all associated project fieldwork from January 28th - February 4th, 2003.
The asbestos survey included only the east interior office wall of Room 205.
Bulk asbestos samples of gypsum wallboard and joint compound were collected from the east wall area scheduled for future renovation.
5.0 Building 576 Exterior Results
5.1 Asbestos Results
The asbestos laboratory results are included in Appendix A. Review of laboratory results revealed that only two materials sampled contain asbestos greater than 1%.
Black sealant (sample B576B0202-5C) is present at the northwest end of the building. The observed sealant material is approximately 15 lineal feet in length. Sample B576B0203-11C was collected from the south portion of the upper roof. Concrete foam panels were removed to access roofing sample locations. The roofing system appears homogenous; however, only one of nine samples collected returned positive results. This may be from roofing patch and repair work. The roofing system has been confirmed to contain asbestos and should be treated accordingly. The roof area measures approximately 4,600 ft2. Figure 1 provides asbestos sample locations.

5.2 Lead Results
Nine XRF tests were positive for the presence of LBP greater than 1 mg/cm2.
Paint inspected on all exterior components was observed in poor condition. Seven materials associated with Building 576 contain LBP.
• Ground ladder to Roof – Beige paint – 1.51 mg/cm2
• Vent adjacent to ground ladder – Beige paint – 5.1 and 6.98 mg/cm2
• Loading Dock / Loading Dock edge – Yellow paint – 1.69 and 6.68 mg/cm2
• Radar Ladder Stand – Red paint – 1.32 mg/cm2
• Lead Flashing Rings on Roof Pipes – Silver paint – 71.88 mg/cm2
• Siren Stand – Pink paint – 7.32 mg/cm2
• Ladder Top of 1st Roof – Beige – 1.08 mg/cm2
In total, 49 XRF tests were conducted on the exterior and roof of Building 576. A complete listing of XRF results are presented in Appendix A. No other exterior building materials tested positive for lead-based paint. Figure 2 provides locations of XRF tests on Building 576.
6.0 Building 576 Interior Results
6.1 Asbestos Results
Three bulk asbestos samples were collected from the east wall of Room 205.
Asbestos sampling was completed prior to completing planned renovation activities for Room 205.
GWB and joint compound samples were analyzed by EPA Method 600/R-93/116 for asbestos. No asbestos containing GWB or joint compound was identified in laboratory analyses. However, negative results for the east wall of Room 205 does not imply that the entire wall system in Building 576 is absent of asbestos containing materials. Figure 1 provides asbestos sample locations. Table 2 provides sample description and results.

6.2 Lead Results
Two lead-based paint XRF tests were performed on the east wall of Room 205.
Both tests were negative for the presence of LBP above 1 mg/cm2. Figure 2 provides locations of XRF tests on Building 576. A complete listing of XRF results are presented in Appendix A.
