BAYBERRY RFQ HSCG85-16-Q-P45458, Questions & Answers, Round 3

20) Question: Work Item 53, Stern Tubes and Strut Barrels, Renew, paragraph 3.6 and 3.6.1 direct the contractor to “renew the strut and stern tube bearings (4 total) in accordance with Coast Guard Drawing 65BUS 4301-1. Bearing shells shall fit inside housing with a -0.001” to +0.004” fit”.

Drawing 65BUS 4301-1 does show the stern tube and strut bearings pressed into the stern tube and strut housings. It also indicates that in 1999 chock fast and set screws were added to the material list which indicates that the some or all of the bearings should be set in liners which are aligned using the set screws and chock fast in place once aligned. The drawing does not show liners for the bearings.

Does the government want the strut and stern tube bearings machined to fit into the strut and stern tube housings? Or is the contractor to price fabricating bearing liners and chock fasting the liners into the housings and setting the bearings into the liners?

Answer: The strut and stern tube bearings machined to fit into the strut and stern tube housings. Previous use of chock fasting was temporary fix, to maintain bearing fit after stern tube experienced wear.

21) Question: Work Item 25, paragraph 3.6 direct the contractor to “perform designated routine dry docking work, in accordance with SFLC STD SPEC 8634, paragraph 3.4.4 (within twenty four hours after docking)”. The contractor believes that the paragraph number is incorrect as there is no paragraph 3.4.4. Please verify that the correct paragraph number should be 3.5.4.

Answer: Concur with contractor. This is apparently a typo and will be changed to reference 3.5.4 VICE 3.4.4 of SFLC Standard Spec 8634. The Paragraph number should be 3.5.4.
