About this file
This is a technical drawing specification document for a hot-stack roof penetration detail, applicable to the Middle School Roof Replacement project in Michigan. The drawing (DWG NO. 07) provides detailed construction specifications for installing a penetration through a built-up roofing (BUR) system where a hot stack pipe passes through the roof assembly. The specification includes requirements for a sheet-metal sleeve, rain collar, and insulated metal liner, with critical installation notes regarding temperature thresholds and material preparation. Key specifications include priming all metal surfaces that contact adhesive, welding or soldering the rain collar to the pipe when service temperatures exceed 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and maintaining appropriate clearance between the hot pipe and insulated metal liner based on material temperature. The assembly incorporates multiple layers including a two-ply stripping with a minimum 4-inch flange set in asphalt cement and mechanically fastened at 3-inch centers, stainless steel clamping ring, treated wood blocking, and specified insulation and cover board materials.
The drawing specifies an 8-inch minimum dimension and 3- to 4-inch overlap for the flashing collar, with perimeter mastic sealing required at the existing insulated metal liner connection. The detail requires coordination between roofing, sheet metal, and mechanical trades to ensure proper installation of the hot stack penetration. No specific pricing, quantities, bidding procedures, or contract terms are addressed within this technical drawing document itself, as it serves as a design and construction specification for implementation within the broader Middle School Roof Replacement project scope.

NOTES
1. PRIME ALL METAL SURFACES THAT WILL COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE SPECIFIED ADHESIVE.
2. WHEN HOT STACK SERVICE TEMPERATURE EXCEEDS 400 DEGREES, WELD OR SOLDER RAIN COLLAR TO
PIPE IN LIEU OF INSTALLING SEALANT.
3. THE CLEARANCE REQUIRED BETWEEN THE HOT PIPE AND INSULATED METAL LINER WILL DEPEND ON THE
TEMPERATURE OF THE MATERIAL HANDLED BY THE STACK.
