About this file
This document provides supporting information for a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) soliciting proposals for nuclear detection technologies. The BAA seeks technologies in support of Conventional Nuclear Integration (CNI) and Counter Nuclear Threat Networks (CNTN). CNI focuses on developing nuclear sensors integrated into multi-modal networks to improve situational awareness and decision support for U.S. and allied forces operating in nuclear environments. CNTN aims to enhance data analytics, visualization and decision support at tactical and strategic levels through improved sensor packages and signature discovery. Specific topics under this BAA include mobile detection technologies, advanced algorithms and data analytics, and integrated sensor packages. Proposed solutions must substantially improve performance metrics like size, weight, power and cost over existing capabilities.

This set of slides is intended to provide supporting information for this BAA topic release. Approaches presented in proposals should be guided by the concepts in the slide relevant to the topic.
Conventional Nuclear Integration (CNI)
CNI is guided by the following principles:
• Supported with state-of-the-art nuclear sensors
• Integrated into multi-modal, multi-functional networks
• Developed in support of U.S and allied forces (maneuver or base defense) operating in nuclear environments
• Developed around improved situational awareness and decision support tools
• Embedded with C2 systems
• Functionality at the tactical edge but expandable to networks as allowed
• Enabled by machine learning, virtual reality and augmented reality
• Supporting air, sea, and ground missions
Topics NT-21-DET-01, NT-21-DET-02, and NT-21-DET-03 are in support of CNI.
Counter Nuclear Threat Networks (CNTN)
CNTN is guided by the following principles:
• Informed by signature discovery efforts
• Integrated sensor packages designed for specific applications and often exploiting multiple signatures to improve confidence
• Improved data analytics and visualization
• Decision support at the tactical edge and situational awareness tools to support tactical, operational, and strategic command elements
Topic NT-21-DET-04 is in support of CNTN.
