About this file
This document provides supporting information for a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) soliciting proposals for nuclear detection technologies. The BAA seeks technologies in support of Battlefield Nuclear Warfare (BNW) and Counter Nuclear Threat Networks (CNTN), guided by principles such as integrated multi-modal networks, improved situational awareness and decision support tools, functionality at the tactical edge, and machine learning applications. Specific topics under BNW include NT-22-DET-01 through NT-22-DET-04, and topics under CNTN include NT-22-DET-05 and NT-22-DET-06. Proposed technologies must provide substantial improvements over current capabilities in areas like size, weight, power consumption, cost, compatibility, and background mitigation. The Defense Threat Reduction Agency will evaluate proposals submitted in response to solicitation HDTRA1-18-S-0002, seeking technologies that fill capability needs related to nuclear detection for applications such as search, standoff detection, sensitive site exploitation, and consequence management.

Supporting Information
Distribution A: Approved for public release: distribution unlimited.
This set of slides is intended to provide supporting information for this BAA topic release. Approaches presented in proposals should be guided by the concepts in the slide relevant to the topic.
Battlefield Nuclear Warfare (BNW)
BNW is guided by the following principles:
• Supported with state-of-the-art nuclear sensors
• Integrated into multi-modal, multi-functional networks
• Developed in support of U.S and allied forces (maneuver or base defense) operating in nuclear environments
• Developed around improved situational awareness and decision support tools
• Embedded with C2 systems
• Functionality at the tactical edge but expandable to networks as allowed
• Enabled by machine learning, virtual reality, and augmented reality
• Supporting air, sea, and ground missions
Topics NT-22-DET-01, NT-22-DET-02, NT-22-DET-03, and NT-22-DET-04 are in support of BNW.
Counter Nuclear Threat Networks (CNTN)
CNTN is guided by the following principles:
• Informed by signature discovery efforts
• Integrated sensor packages designed for specific applications and often exploiting multiple signatures to improve confidence
• Improved data analytics and visualization
• Decision support at the tactical edge and situational awareness tools to support tactical, operational, and strategic command elements
Topic NT-22-DET-05 and NT-22-DET-06 are in support of CNTN.
