Question # Site Visit Questions Received from Potential Offerors Government Response 1 Will the Government provide the script that is being read regarding the different tour locations?
Yes, the script is provided on the following pages (pages 2-3) of this Q&A attachment.
2 Does the machine shop have precision cleaning capabilities (i.e. 300A, 100A, Fab shop)?
No.
3 Is there a formalized MX program (PMI), Facilities and Equipment?
Yes.
4 Where does AFRL facilities MX (boundaries) start compared to CE (AFTC)?
CE handles all real property, ASTROS works the non- real property and test stands are not real property.
5 What is the SOCC for? It is the Safety Operations Control Center.

ASTROS Site Visit Script - 14 Aug 2015
Site Visit Questions & Answers and Tour Script Page 2 of 3
Beginning of tour: This is a scripted windshield tour. No deviations are allowed. All questions must be submitted to contracting. We will stop at the facilities, but we will not be getting out of the vehicle. Photography is not allowed.
Area 1-14
--Satellite scale research on next generation rocket engine materials, components, subsystems, and engines. Research rocket firings encompass both storable and cryogenic systems, ranging from ground level to simulated altitudes of 120,000 feet. Experiments are accomplished in a number of approaches, using any of five test cells for static testing of liquid propellant engines; dynamic load effects created by a centrifuge; or liquid propellant flow distribution measurements in the facilities hydrodynamic flow lab.
Area 1-32
--First-level scale-up for research on next generation rocket motor components, nozzle and case materials, propellant formulations, and subsystems. Research includes solid rocket motor testing at ground level and tactical-scale high hazard testing including destruction.
Area 1-42
--Research and development on next generation rocket motor and engine components, propellant formulations, and subsystems; and high vacuum research on satellite components, subsystems, and systems. Research testing includes; storable and cryogenic systems and solid rocket motor testing at simulated altitudes up to 120,000 ft; and thermal vacuum testing of satellite systems up to simulated altitudes of 650,000 feet. Experiments are accomplished through static test firing in one of three horizontal oriented or one vertical nozzle down oriented vacuum chambers. High vacuum satellite systems research is accomplished in a thirty foot diameter sphere.

Area 1-120
--Included in this area are test stands 1A, 1B and 2A. Conducts full scale research on launch vehicle liquid rocket engine systems, sub-systems, and components. Research includes extended duration testing at ground level. Experiments are accomplished through static test firing of sub-systems and components. Complete integrated engine systems are tested in a nozzle down orientation.
Electric Propulsion Lab
--The Electronic Propulsion Lab is devoted to the advancement of electric propulsion thrusters. Building 8595 provides offices, laboratory space, and an array of vacuum chambers for research and development on electric propulsion devices.
Fabrication Shop
--The Machine Shop fabricates complex research and prototype models and model parts from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials, using conventional and/or computer numerical control machine tools and precision handwork, usually used in experimental or developmental work, to a full, reduced, or enlarged scale within extremely close tolerances. We make independent judgments and decisions in determining how to fabricate a model to meet the precise design specifications established by scientists or engineers responsible for testing the model.
