Highlights an essential operating or maintenance procedure, practice, condition, statement, etc., which if not strictly observed, could result in damage to, or destruction of, equipment or loss of mission effectiveness.
NOTE
Highlights an essential operating or maintenance procedure, condition, or statement.
WARNINGs and CAUTIONs are used in this manual to highlight operating or maintenance procedures, practices, conditions, or statements which are considered essential to protection of personnel (WARNING) or equipment (CAUTION). WARNINGs and CAUTIONs immediately precede the step or procedure to which they apply. WARNINGs and CAUTIONs consist of four parts: heading (WARNING, CAUTION, or icon), a statement of the hazard, minimum precautions, and possible results if disregarded. NOTEs are used in this manual to highlight operating or maintenance procedures, practices, conditions, or statements which are not essential to protection of personnel or equipment.
NOTEs may precede or follow the step or procedure, depending upon the information to be highlighted. The headings used and their definitions are as follows:
3 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.
The following safety precautions shall be observed while performing procedures in this manual.
• The water filter does not remove micro bacteria from the water. Ensure water serviced in the potable water tank is safe for drinking. Failure to do so could result in sickness or nausea. Failure to comply if not strictly observed, could result in injury to, or death of, personnel or long term health hazards.
• Oven doors, oven food trays, and coffee maker warmer surfaces become extremely hot during operation. Use caution when working in and around these areas, as severe burns could occur. Use protective gloves or other suitable means of protection. Failure to comply if not strictly observed, could result in injury to, or death of, personnel or long term health hazards.
• High voltages are present within the Air Transportable Gallery/Lavatory (ATGL) systems. Ensure electrical power is removed when working in and around electrical components. Failure to comply with warning may result in serious injury or loss of life.

I WARNING I
I WARNING I
• For sanitation purposes, always wear rubber gloves, preferably of elbow length, when working within the tank area or when handling parts and equipment that come in contact with tank fluid. Failure to comply with warning may result in injury or long term health risks.
• Use of compressed air can create an environment of propellant foreign particles. Air pressure shall be reduced to less than 30 PSI and used with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment. Failure to comply with warning may result in serious injury.
• In the event the ATGL will be exposed to freezing temperatures, the water system, coffee makers, and toilet tank must be drained to prevent serious damage to system components. Failure to comply if not strictly observed, could result in damage to, or destruction of, equipment or loss of mission effectiveness.
• The use of dry ice in the ATGL refrigerator is prohibited. Gases released by dry ice corrode and seize the modules that provide cooling air. Failure to comply if not strictly observed, could result in damage to, or destruction of, equipment or loss of mission effectiveness.
4 HARDNESS CRITICAL ITEMS (HCI).
If included, items with nuclear survivability requirements are marked with the HCI symbol ( HCI ). All changes to, or proposed substitutions of, HCIs must be approved by the acquiring activity.

11 MANUAL STRUCTURE.
This manual is divided into Work Packages (WPs) and contains general information, shipping, operation, troubleshooting, testing, preventive maintenance, structural repair, maintenance, wiring diagrams and parts list for the ATGL. Each work package is formatted as a 3-digit number (e.g., 001, 002) located on the upper right-hand corner of each page. Work packages are then further divided into Subordinate Work Packages (SWPs) to further define tasks (e.g., 001 01, 001 02). Each WP/SWP will contain a table of contents, list of figures, and a list of tables defining the structure of each WP.
12 SCHEME OF INDEXING.
Three indexing methods are used within this TO to help in locating information; the Numerical Index of Effective Work Packages, the Alphabetical Index, and the WP's Table of Contents.
12.1 Numerical Index of Effective Work Packages. The numerical index of effective work packages contains a list of all the work packages/subordinate work packages found within this TO, listed in order by WP/SWP number.
12.2 Alphabetical Index. The Alphabetical index contains a list of all work packages/subordinate work packages found within this TO, listed in alphabetical order.
12.3 Table Contents. Each work package contains its own table of contents that break down the contents covered within that particular work package.

15 MAINTENANCE CONCEPTS.
The purpose of maintenance is to extend the service life of a system, machine, or structure. A maintenance action is designed to restore a system, component, or a part within a component to operate as designed before a failure occurs. This definition is in contrast to "repair" which is defined as work performed after a component or part failure occurs. The activities performed in an intermediate or depot maintenance activity include both maintenance and repair actions. This TO provides maintenance/repair procedures primarily at the Intermediate level, with some maintenance tasks performed at the Organizational level. All maintenance/repair performed at the Depot level will not be covered in this
TO.
15.1 Organizational Maintenance. Any maintenance action that can be performed at the LRU level without requiring the removal of higher level parts or the repair of parts can be performed by Organizational personnel (e.g., removal/installation of the ATGL control panel, ovens, refrigerators, coffee makers etc.).
15.2 Intermediate Maintenance. Any maintenance action that can be perform at the Organizational level can also be performed by Intermediate personnel. Additionally, repair, replace, inspect, clean, disassembly/assembly, and test of LRU components can be performed at the Intermediate level. All maintenance/repair actions that can be performed at the Intermediate level will be covered by this TO.
16 REPORT ERRORS AND IMPROVEMENTS.
