About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for the Replace Chapel Windows Building 912 federal contract opportunity. The document addresses 11 clarifications regarding the window replacement project at a chapel facility.

The project involves demolishing and replacing three existing wood-framed windows with double-pane, insulated curtain wall systems matching the Old Castle Reliance Curtain Wall or approved equivalent. No window tinting is permitted for stained glass areas, except for the rear kitchen window which requires Solar Gray Tinted Window Glass. The contract includes removal and replacement of wooden window trim with matching metal trim, repair of stained glass panels, and reinstallation of existing curtains and blinds. A 12-foot by 6-foot ceiling section in the classroom requires removal and reinstallation to accommodate window replacement. Contractors may use scaffolding inside during construction and may secure window openings with heavy tarps or other methods sufficient to protect building interiors from weather, dust, and debris. Drywall damage repair painting must extend column-to-column if damage is contained between columns, or edge-to-edge across the entire wall if damage extends beyond column boundaries. The government will not require removal of scaffolding on weekends and will not restrict classroom or chapel work beyond standard operational hours and site cleanliness requirements. A site laydown area close to the construction site will be provided for storage trailers and dumpsters.

Replace Chapel Windows Bldg 912

Questions/Answers

1. Are all of the existing frames made of aluminum or wood?

Answer: The three windows to be demolished under this contract are existing wood framed windows. The new windows will be double pane, insulated, curtain wall systems (match existing Old Castle Reliance Curtain Wall or approved equal) windows (no tint on windows for stained glass) and flashing.

2. Will we be allowed to leave scaffolding in place inside during construction?

Answer: Yes

3. Can heavy tarps be used to secure the windows opening each day in lieu of plywood?

Answer: The contractor is responsible for the protection of existing facilities from damage.

Any method used must be sufficient to protect the building's interior from weather, dust, and debris.

4. It was discovered during the site visit that approx. 12 ft X 6 ft section of ceiling will need to be removed & reinstalled to replace the window in the classroom, does govt concur?

Answer: CE Concurs

5. Will govt require a section of break metal be installed on the inside bottom of the new window to cover the existing wood trim at the floor?

Answer: The Statement of Work specifies that for the front chapel windows, the contractor must "Remove wooden window trim and match metal trim from existing Old Castle Window." This indicates a full replacement of the trim, not covering it.

6. Some of the stain glass panels need repairing, does the govt want this included in the cost requirement?

Answer: CE Concurs

7. Will the govt require the curtain & blinds be reinstalled on the kitchen window after the new window is installed?

Answer: The existing curtain and blinds will need to be temporarily removed to complete the necessary window replacement and reinstalled after work is completed.

8. Does the govt want the obscure glass in the existing kitchen window installed in the new window or clear glass?

Answer: The new storefront window at the rear of the chapel (which is the kitchen area) should have Solar Gray Tinted Window Glass. The SOW specifies this tint for the new window and does not call for reusing the existing obscure glass.

9. If drywall is damaged during window replacement, Will repainting of the drywall from column to column be sufficient after the new window is completed?

Answer: CE concurs so long as the damage is contained between the columns. If the damage is outside the column boundary the repainting requirement will be from edge to edge of the entirety of the wall.

10. Will the contractor be required to remove scaffolding from inside of the chapel each Friday to allow services during the weekend & reinstalled on Monday? Any work restrictions for the classroom area or the chapel?

Answer: That will not be necessary. The main restrictions will primarily be operation hours and maintaining site control and cleanliness throughout as we must not impact the daily operations of the B912 Chapel.

11. Will govt provide an area for a storage trailer & dumpster on site?

Answer: A site Laydown area close to the construction site will be available for the project
