About this file

This document is an identification requirements guidance issued by Shaw Air Force Base regarding compliance with the REAL ID Act.

Shaw AFB accepts driver's licenses and identification cards from all REAL ID-compliant states and territories, or those with extensions, through May 7, 2025. Non-compliant identification documents that display disclaimers such as "Not for Federal Identification," "Federal Limits Apply," or similar language cannot be used independently for base access and must be accompanied by an alternate acceptable form of identification. Acceptable alternate forms include federally-issued identification (U.S. passports, PIV cards, military IDs, permanent resident cards, employment authorization documents, transportation worker credentials, merchant mariner cards, and veterans identification cards); state-issued identification meeting REAL ID standards or enhanced driver's licenses; Native American tribal photo IDs; and foreign government-issued passports. The document directs users to reference the Department of Homeland Security website at https://www.dhs.gov/current-status-states-territories for current state compliance status, as the information is subject to ongoing updates.
