MATERIALS:
Grip – made of the same basic material as the strand they are designed for.
Identification Tag – shows catalog number, nominal strand size and strand diameter range.
Color Code – identifies correct strand sizes.
Cross over marks – mark A shows starting point for application on small diameter terminations. Mark B shows starting point for application on larger diameter terminations described on page 2.
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
POWER GRIP DEAD ENDS are recommended for single wood poles associated with distribution construction and for guying transmission towers.
They are compatible to the strand and are ideal for use in coastal areas and in polluted areas.
APPLICATION INSPECTION
DEAD ENDS may be removed and re-applied a maximum of 3 times during new construction with-out damaging their performance characteristics, however they should not be reused after original installation.
DEAD ENDS are designed generally to hold the full rated strength of 90 to 110 ton of grade galvanized steel strand.
DEAD ENDS should be used on hardware that is held in a fixed position; the fitting should not be allowed to rotate or spin about the axis of the strand.
Further, they should not be used as tools; such as come-alongs, pulling-in grips, etc.
Lay direction of both the DEAD END and the strand should be the same. In most cases left hand lay is standard. For appearance and safety, the stranded tail should be cut as close as convenient to the cross over mark. If desired the strand tail can, instead, extend through the loop for grounding purposes.
DEAD ENDS retain a positive grip under all conditions whether the guy is relaxed or under tension. Once the legs of the DEAD END are in position, the assembly is complete and permanent.
DEAD ENDS will remain fully operative under the most difficult conditions, tension, impact, temperature extremes, in fact, any force to be met in functional performance. They will never relinquish their gripping power.

Stainless Steel Wire Rope Clips TYPE 304 AND 316 (Drop Forged)
*Based on clean, unlubricated threads.
Minimum torque required to reach max. holding power
RIGHT WAY FOR MAXIMUM ROPE STRENGTH
When using U-bolt clips, extreme care must be exercised to make certain that they are attached correctly. The correct way to attach U-bolts is shown above; the “U” section is in contact with the ropes “dead-end” and is clear of the thimble. The “live-end”, carrying the load is gripped by the saddle of the clip. Also, the tightening and retightening of the nuts must be accomplished as required.
Caution: Never use any wire rope clip to directly connect two straight lengths of wire rope.

Hex nut and zinc plated U-bolt.
How to attach drop Forged wire rope clips
The right way to attach wire rope clips is illustrated at left. The base of saddle should bear on the live end of the rope- U-bolt on the short or dead end. Staggering or reversing the clips does NOT give additional holding power.
1. ATTACH FIRST CLIP one base width from dead end of rope. Tighten nuts securely.
2. ATTACH SECOND CLIP as close to loop as possible. Tighten nuts firmly but not completely tight.
3. ATTACH ALL OTHER CLIPS (if required) equally spaced between the first two. Tighten nuts firmly.
CAUTION
Apply the initial load to the rope. Alternately and uniformly retighten all nuts securely, to compensate for any reduction of rope diameter. Inspect and periodically retighten. The number of clips shown should be used for 6 v 19 or 6 x 37 class, fiber core or IWRC, IPS or XIPS, right regular or long lay Wire Rope, and 8 x 19 or 8 x 7 class, fibre core, IPS or XIPS, Wire Rope.
For 6 x 19 Seale construction or similar large outer wire constructions, add one extra clip for sizes 1” and larger. Where service conditions are unusually severe, or for other classes of rope not mentioned above, add one additional clip.
Drop Forged Wire Rope Clips, when properly applied to new rope will develop high efficiencies (approximately 80%) based upon the catalog breaking strength of the wire rope. Failure to follow the above instructions will cause a reduction in efficiency.
Please include stock number and size when ordering.
• All clips are supplied with cold-forged double chamfered, heavy hex, UNC-2B nuts. *
• Meet Federal Specification FF-C-450c Type I, Class 1.

Type ICX Interchangeable Cutout
15-38 kV Outdoor Distribution Cutout Product Bulletin 1VAG271201-DB se ll W ell s
Product Features
• 15, 27, or 38 kV
• 110, 125, 150, 180, or 200 kV BIL
• 100 A, 200 A Fused
• 300 A Disconnect Blade
• Porcelain, Silicone, or Polymer Concrete Insulators Available
• Seacoast Design
• ECD (Emission Control Device)
• Cutout/Arrester Combo
• Kick-out Spring
Description The ABB ICX interchangeable cutout is used on overhead distribution systems to provide overcurrent protection and visible indication of fuse operation. The ICX provides a visible break sectionalizing point for maintenance personnel and is equipped with hooks to use with a portable loadbreak tool. This allows the ICX to be used as a loadbreak switch to open the circuit with load current flowing.
Silicone or Polymer Concrete insulators, Emission Control Devices (ECDs), Seacoast design, cutout/arrester combinations, and Autolink options are available on certain models.
Ratings The ICX cutout is offered in three frame sizes and five BIL ratings.
Each of the frames accommodates fuseholders with various ratings.
ICX ratings are 110 kV through 200 kV BIL.
Design Features The ICX 100 A fuse is provided with a moisture proof tube as a stan-dard offering. Cutouts perform by expelling gases during interruption from the bottom of the fuse tube. For the highest interrupting rating, a link extender rod is attached to the fuse tube cap, improving the effi-ciency of gas expulsion and arc interruption. Fuse tubes with more than one rating are clearly labeled to indicate each interrupting capability.
This minimizes the number of styles that must be stocked, while pro-viding the broadest range of application flexibility.
Interchangeability The ICX cutout is designed to be electrically and mechanically inter-changeable with the S&C type “XS”, A.B. Chance type “C”, and Cooper type “L” cutouts. Fuseholder caps are also interchangeable with the S&C design. Testing has confirmed the performance of the ICX fuse-holder and fuse support with S&C and Chance.
Standards and Design Testing The ICX cutout meets or exceeds all applicable requirements of EEI, NEMA SG-2-1986, and ANSI C37.41.1994 and C37.42-1989 standards.

15 kV ICX polymer concrete se ll W ell s
Silicone Rubber Silicone rubber has been used for more than 25 years as an outdoor insulation material and has become the fastest growing choice for polymeric material for medium and high voltage outdoor insulation. Silicone was selected for its superior performance, durability, and insulation properties.
It has the unique ability to maintain its hydrophobicity and offers greater stability against heat and ultraviolet radiation compared to other polymers. In addition, silicone cutouts are 30% - 50% lighter than porcelain units. Silicone insula-tors are available in all ratings up to 180 kV BIL.
Polymer Concrete ABB has been using polymer concrete for more than 10 years. It is available in the 110 and 125 kV BIL ratings.
Polymer concrete provides a safe, shatter-proof design with molded-in rods to prevent moisture penetration. Polymer concrete is cold weather friendly since it resists damage from freeze/thaw cycles. This makes it an excellent replacement for porcelain in colder climates. It is a field-proven material that provides excellent electrical properties and dielectric strengths, as well as superior mechanical durability.
ICX with ECD The ICX is available with an Emission Control Device (ECD). The ECD prevents forest fires and provides added operator and environment protection. The unlatching oper-ation of the dropout is unique in the ECD, as it automati-cally resets to the service position upon closing the dropout carrier.
Kick-out Spring All ICX fuse tubes are available with an optional kick-out spring. The spring assists the drop-out operation by increas-ing the kick-out force on the tube.
Fuse Tube Construction The ICX cutouts utilize two different types of fuse tubes: a moisture-proof fuse tube or a high-strength glass fuse tube.
The moisture proof fuse tube is standard on all 100 A designs and is notated by the letter "M" in the 8th digit of the style number (refer to Ordering Instructions on pages 6-7). The moisture-proof tube reduces swelling that can create problems with interruption.
The 200 A design utilizes a high-strength glass fuse tube and is notated by the letter "A" in the 8th digit of the style number (refer to Ordering Instructions on pages 6-7). This fuse tube is composed of a horn fiber liner surrounded by a glass filament wound outer shell. The durable tube with-stands the rigors of high fault current interruptions. In addition, the tube is applied with electrostatic powder paint to provide protection against the effects of ultraviolet rays.
Voltage Levels Single voltage rated cutouts can be applied on any single or three-phase system where the line-to-line voltage does not exceed the cutout rating. Dual voltage rated cutouts are suit-able on single-phase circuits where maximum line-to-ground voltage does not exceed the value shown to the left of the slash (for example, does not exceed 7.8kV in 7.8/15kV).
ICX cutouts may be used on three-phase circuits that are solidly grounded and the maximum line-to-line voltage does not exceed the value shown to the right of the slash (for example, does not exceed 27kV in 15/27 kV).
Each frame size has fault interrupting ratings at more than one voltage level. An extensive testing program was per-formed to develop these multi-voltage capabilities. As a result of this program, the voltage rating of some ICX cutouts may be increased by changing the fuseholder.
