QUESTION: Section 086100 Calls for Velux Model FCM Fixed Skylight. Distributor tells me the IMPACT resistant and Miami-Dade County Approved (Miami approved one is IMPACT resistant) are different skylights, however, Miami-Dade is not required in Brevard County, and Miami-Dade approved skylight is significantly more money. Would IMPACT resistant be accepted or must it be Miami-Dade Approved?
ANSWER: Miami Dade rated skylights are a local base requirement due to proximity to the Coast. The greater strength of the Miami Dade rated skylights provides additional safety, security, and fall protection.
