Sample Data Collected

QR Tracer - SOP - Bus Scan 1

Field: Index Inherent to table; no data captured

Field: Timestamp Can use the date portion of the timestamp to identify date of the ride, therefore do not need to separately capture the date. Can also use the timestamp of the scan action to identify boarding order

Field: RIDE_ID Each route will be assigned a unique route ID -something that captures intended departure time, and an origin and destination Each route will be assigned a unique route ID - something that captures intended departure time, and an origin and destination in the example, 0800offsiteVA translates to 0800 departure from offsite, going to VA

Field: BUS_SEAT Each bus will be assigned a designation, and each site will be identified. Recommendation is the seat identifier is physically attached to the seat as a scan-able code.

In the example. the bus is identified with a letter, and the seat has a 3-digit ID

Field: PASSENGER Each rider will have a unique scan-able code. Phone number based or other, as long as it is unique

***The information in the columns shown in the example is what the code would unscramble to.

Tasks:

Informatics:

- Generate unique identifier for passengers

- Once Fleet has determined how they wish to identify buses+seats and the route ID, will generate the scannable code

- Scripts for data parsing, storage tasks, where to save

HTM:

- Identify scanner that can upload data in the formats we need

- Preferably can program scanner interface to prompt

- Preferably can export data as excel or text

- Preferably QR scanner as QR codes are more robust (checksum, redundancy, if damaged does not garble data)

- storage tasks, where to save

Fleet:

- Determine a way to identify buses+seats

- Determine a method to identify route ID

VASD

- Way to distribute the passenger IDs

Process Flow (Narrative)

QR Tracer - SOP - Bus Scan 15

1) Passengers load the bus, no assigned seats

2) Once all passengers are loaded

3) Driver scans the Ride_ID for the route that this shuttle will be taking.

4) Driver scans him/herself

5) Driver scans all passengers on the bus

1) Scan SEAT first

2) Scan PASSENGER second

6) Driver scans the Ride_ID for the route that this shuttle will be taking.

7) Driver scans him/herself

• Steps 6 and 7 are required so that in data processing, the software knows where the list of passengers on a particular ride ends.

8) At the end of the day, driver places scanner in dock to charge.

FAQs

QR Tracer - SOP - Bus Scan 17

1) Can a scan be deleted?

1) Yes – the immediately previous scan can be deleted by pointing the scanner at the QR, and pressing the – button

2) Does order matter?

1) The only order that matters is the seat is scanned first, then the passenger

3) Can multiple shuttles select the same route?

1) Yes; this will be captured in the seat_id portion

2) i.e. if at 8AM two buses leave offsite for main campus; one set of scans will have seat_ids corresponding to the first bus, and the other set of scans will have seat_ids corresponding to the second bus

4) What if I leave at 8:11AM instead of 8AM?

1) Please select the departure time you were scheduled for. If it was supposed to be the 8AM bus and you are leaving late, please select 8AM ride_ID. If it was supposed to be the 815AM shuttle and is leaving early, please select 815AM ride_ID.
