About this file
This is an Asbestos Inspection Report for Building #24 at MCB Camp Lejeune, dated July 23, 2024.
Building #24 is occupied by the Communications and Electronics Office and was constructed in 1942. The facility has a hazard ranking of 0/BLUE with no asbestos-containing materials (ACM) currently identified. Historical inspection records indicate that previous ACM, including pipe insulation and fittings, as well as 9" and 12" tile and mastic, were removed during prior renovations (most recently in May 1996). The building underwent major renovations and expansion in October 2002 with no ACM identified post-renovation. Additional sampling conducted in June 2008 and August 2010 confirmed removal of previous ACM and exterior transite debris. The Camp Lejeune Asbestos Program Manager (phone: 910-451-5837) maintains the survey documentation and coordinates periodic inspections to evaluate any changes in material condition.
The inspection identified multiple tested and non-ACM or removed materials documented from June 25, 2008, including floor tile and adhesive, roofing material, interior and exterior caulking, drywall joint material, duct sealant, carpet adhesive, residual mastic, and transite panel material. Laboratory testing confirmed zero percent asbestos content (chrysotile, amosite, and other asbestos types) across all 33 samples collected. The facility maintains protocols requiring occupants to avoid disturbing any remaining materials, report any damage or debris to the Asbestos Program Manager, and adhere to conditions preventing sanding, grinding, or abrading of materials. Corrective actions are initiated as needed to minimize fiber release and protect personnel.

ACM only presents a health hazard when asbestos fibers are airborne and inhaled.
Avoid disturbance which will release fibers. The presence of asbestos does not constitute a health hazard.
HEALTH ASPECTS:
Do not disturb or cause damage to ACM. Do not sand, grind or abrade materials or cause damage with any type of equipment.
CONDITIONS TO AVOID:
Report any damage, dust or debris that may come from ACM or suspect ACM, or any change in the condition of materials, or accidental disturbance to the Asbestos
Program Manager.
REPORTS OF DAMAGE:
Corrective action initiated to minimize fiber release and protect personnel. RESPONSE ACTION:
